“7-course beef”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

We checked out this place based on on-line reviews. We were not impressed, a little disappointed, in fact. Food was OK, portions were small. Cash only!

“Authentic and unique Vietnamese in Heart of Little Saigon”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

In the heart of little Saigon sits tiny Pagaloc,a very welcoming, family run place awaits you. There tens of these in the neighborhood...
So what is so special? ...One thing. The Bo 7 Mon, 7 courses of beef at Pagaloc is what made them popular. They offer 7 mouthwatering courses of beef ranging from raw carpaccio, perfectly grilled and bundled to fondued that will make you salivate for more.
The bittersweet story behind the restaurant is that in 2005, the owner was on her way to buy fresh vegetables at the Farmer's Market nearby when she was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident. Consequently, Pagaloc closed for several months until her children decided to reopen the restaurant as a tribute to her.

This dinner for 2 is a carnivores wet dream.
Bon 7 Mon/7 Courses of Beef * $ 18.50 PP.
(1) Bo Tai Canh: Beef carpaccio
(2) Bo Nhung Dam: Beef fondue
(3) Bo Nuong Vi: Grill your own beef
(4, 5, 6) Bo La Lot, Bo Cuon Mo, Bo Lui: Sausages wrapped in leaves, beef wrapped scallion & beef skewers
(7) Chao Bo: Beef congee

Each course is nicely presented and the experience is participatory as some courses require you to fondue and grill your own meat. Rice paper sheets and a plate stacked with fresh lettuce, bean sprouts, sliced cucumbers, pickled carrots and daikon, mint and basil are provided so you can roll your own spring rolls with the flavorful grilled meats. If it's your first time at Pagaloc, they will gladly explain to you what to do.This is a great place to get to know someone, you definitely have to engage here. And easy on the pocket book, you'll have enough cash left for a nightcap or other indulgence when you leave. NOTE: CASH ONLY
The interior is spartan, the kitchen cramped and you need to wind your way thru very tight spaces on your way into the bath room. With about 45 seats it's cozy, 3 of us were "relocated" when a group of 8 showed up. They were extremely nice about it and comped up a pistachio style ice cream and fried banana as a consolation.
It's a winner on many counts, Check 'em out.

“Fantastic find”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

Got a very fussy son and so was dreading this having stepped into the door and seeing the table top cooking going on but I needn't have worried as the welcome was warm and all the questions we had about the dishes were answered with great detail. The food was delicious and my son was very relaxed with all the food, there were lots of new flavours and the atmosphere in the place makes SF seem a world away. Yes it is a less than glamorous area but still worth seeking out.

“you do NOT stand in line for hours like that other post says.. like 10 minutes max on a REALLY busy night like Friday..”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

NO wait otherwise..

I have always wanted to write a review for this place and I never have.. but my visit there last night has reminded me I need to do it!

This place is wonderful!

- Every time i order food to go from there and go to pick it up, they give me hot team while i wait.. which is a very nice touch i think! very hospitable!

- the waiters are attentive and nice

- the place doesn't just taste good but the food is SO good and yes, there are two vegetarian options which are so awesome that you don't need more :)

- the prices are EXTREMELY reasonable.. I'm talking like $7 dollars for some items!

*** Last night.. i went by myself.. (sad i know lol) and the owner (cooks also) came out of the kitchen to say hello to me since i was alone.. which was VERY nice.. and we had a good conversation! He has run into some problems in the past and he deserves the community's support because he is very humble and kind and cares about his customers! I encouraged him to open up for lunch.

Try to go to dinner there for now and I am sure you will have a wonderful time!

Please support this small business! He totally deserves it and he will be very grateful!

“Terrific food in the Tenderloin”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

This small spot in the Tenderloin offers great Vietnamese food, with an emphasis on rolls, which we ordered. All the ingredients are presented at your table, along with some quick instruction in cooking at your table.
It was a lot of fun to be able to select the fresh vegetables while cooking thinly sliced raw beef and seafood, then assemble it yourself. A little challenging to eat for a westerner who is chopstick challenged, but the food is delicious. It was packed by the time we left at 7:45 on a Saturday. Reasonably priced. One waitress for the entire room, so service was a little rushed.
