Loads of places around to eat fried food but needed something wholesome, fresh and not fried. Had a look in Boudin's and got a couple of sandwiches made fresh to eat on their patio. Could not fault the beef on sourdough...yum yum.
Was in the area again the next few days and could not find anything better so tried different stuff. The buns were a bit much to bite through so on the next visit went back to sourdough sandwiches. About $8 a go...well worth it.
Can also watch the staff making the bread.
Recommended for a quick bite to eat.

Ate here on our first night as we were tired and didn't want to go far (and we don't particularly like fish, lol).
Nice place, good menu choices and not too pricey. Was worried about not being appropriately dressed as it looks quite smart but very casual, husband and I were both wearing trainers as were a lot of others.
Great service with knowledgeable waiting staff, told us all about where the food came from and where our beers were brewed etc, (which is more than you usually get in the uk).
Decent enough meal but not outstanding. Sourdough bread is great though.
Restaurant is above the shop and can also get food downstairs in a more relaxed setting but limited choices. Thing I liked was you can see the working bakery through the windows, there is also a tour for $3. Shop is full of lots of delicious things I wanted to bring home.

I love clam chowder, and sourdough bread. It would seem that someplace that specializes in both would somehow have it mastered. The chowder was just OK, and the bread was dry, dry dry.

The "San Francisco-ness" of the experience was prefect, and a family of 4 ate for less that $40. There are better chowders out there, and oddly, much better bread.

Boudin's have some lovely bread, I especially liked the animal shapes. The museum is fun, and watching the bakers is very interesting. Great gift shop. Very friendly staff.
