On our last visit to San Francisco we visited Aquarium of the Bay. It was very reasonably priced for adults $18.00 each; you could also add the price of an admittance ticket to different packages if you wanted to see other things around the city.
There are several self-guided floors of aquatic creatures that can be found in the bay, or near the bay of San Francisco. There is an elevator for each floor so very wheelchair friendly or people with strollers, walkers, etc. There is a very long underwater tunnel with hundreds of species of aquatic animals, it feels like you can almost touch them they are so close. Be careful though, sometimes with the distortion of the glass it can feel like your getting a bit disoriented, but that feeling quickly passes.
Along the way there are little informative videos, things for children to touch & feel, as well as adults because we are a curious bunch! The last floor holds many different baby aquatic animals that you have a chance to gently touch, i.e. - tiger sharks, sting rays; they were no bigger than about 8 1/2 inches. As well on the last floor is the Gift Shop which was reasonably priced with lots of different gift ideas.
Aquarium of the Bay is right at Pier 39 & although seems like it's not worth going to check out, it makes for a great distraction from the busyness of everything else around it. They are continually getting in new aquatic life & featuring different shows all the time. Worth seeing!
