On our last visit to San Francisco we visited Aquarium of the Bay. It was very reasonably priced for adults $18.00 each; you could also add the price of an admittance ticket to different packages if you wanted to see other things around the city.
There are several self-guided floors of aquatic creatures that can be found in the bay, or near the bay of San Francisco. There is an elevator for each floor so very wheelchair friendly or people with strollers, walkers, etc. There is a very long underwater tunnel with hundreds of species of aquatic animals, it feels like you can almost touch them they are so close. Be careful though, sometimes with the distortion of the glass it can feel like your getting a bit disoriented, but that feeling quickly passes.
Along the way there are little informative videos, things for children to touch & feel, as well as adults because we are a curious bunch! The last floor holds many different baby aquatic animals that you have a chance to gently touch, i.e. - tiger sharks, sting rays; they were no bigger than about 8 1/2 inches. As well on the last floor is the Gift Shop which was reasonably priced with lots of different gift ideas.
Aquarium of the Bay is right at Pier 39 & although seems like it's not worth going to check out, it makes for a great distraction from the busyness of everything else around it. They are continually getting in new aquatic life & featuring different shows all the time. Worth seeing!

Aquarium of the Bay is a fun educational way to spend a few hours. Lots of fish of every species. the walk through was as fast as you wanted to go. Nice place to escape the heat and sun I might add. The plastic walkways under the water was a fun way to really see the sea creatures in their "natural" habitat. There were pictures and detailed information on each fish. Including (as a joke) the human divers. On another floor were the snakes, turtles, and lizards. A worker had a king snake out and you were allowed to touch it if you wanted to. You also had the opportunity to touch sharks and starfish. All in all a fun time for all.

Went on a trip with family as young as 6 and up to 37 everyone loved it. It was beautiful and fun the kids found all the fish from finding nemo which made them love it even more, saw huge sharks and even got to touch star fish and baby sting rays. 3 levels of education and fun for all I would definitely recommend going.

We heard about this place and came to the cahier to learn if it was suitable for 2 adults. She confirmed and was glad to get our money (total of $28 for 2 persons). The advice was wrong - nthis place is an heaven for children, especially small kids, but waste of time and money for adults. After 10 minutes we left the place disappoined and feeling that we got zero value for our money

We went here with my family. It was user-friendly for pregnant people (which I am). Liked the underwater displays the best. We got to see an octopus which is rare to see (according to a staff member). It is easy to navigate and not too overwhelming. My nephews liked touching the animals the best.
