We stayed for three nights at the SF Mayflower Hotel, and being an older hotel (the room we stayed in had been refurbished recently) it has the feel of history and "the good ol' days.
The elevators are a trip down memory lane, with the old grate doors.
Rooms are OK, but the sheets and linen could be more comfortable. They had the feel of being "to new" and felt like they haven't been washed before (starched or in need of a rinse).
The continental breakfast is OK, but is only served between 7.00 and 9.00 AM on weekdays, and until 10.00 AM on weekends.
The location of the SF Mayflower is ideal, if you want to see the city by foot - everything is more or less within walking distance.

My mom and I did a mother/daughter vacation here for 5 days in August and the Hotel Mayflower made it even better! This is a quaint historic hotel in the heart of Nob Hill. It is within walking distance to all kinds of landmarks and easily accessible by transit (including cable car). We were in room 112 and admittedly the view wasn't great, but the 2 windows let a lot of light in and we weren't really in the room all that often anyway. The front desk staff were always friendly and so helpful.

Continental breakfast was good - cereal, toast, muffins, biscuits, coffee, etc. I have to say the baking wasn't very fresh but there were enough choices to make up for it. Room was cleaned daily and it was so nice to have a small kitchenette to keep snacks and drinks. Hot water was never a problem and the wifi always worked well. You won't find a better hotel in this price range! Overall I would highly recommend this hotel for San Francisco travellers

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor seemed to gave not great views.

We had 3 rooms at the hotel for three nights, 4 adults and 2 children. The rooms were comfortable and very clean, if a little 'tired'. The breakfasts were good, especially the home baked goodies. The hotel is centrally placed and we found it very easy to reach all the places we wanted to visit. The only drawback was that the wifi connection was slightly flaky, which could have been a drawback if the teenager in our party had been in the room with the intermittent connection.

I really enjoyed this hotel. My room was a good size for 1 person. I also love the mini kitchenette. The location was extremely convienent. Trader Joe's was 3 blocks away from the hotel!!!!! The price for the room was great compared to what I expected! This hotel is a nice surprise!!!

Room Tip: You can hear the garbage trucks and the cable car track at 5am in the front room

Having a great time in this lovely hotel. It is so refreshing not to be in a chain hotel for once
The room we are staying in (615) is spacious, clean and very quiet. The beds are very comfy, breakfast good with home made breads/muffins,and you can easily walk to Union Square,China Town etc. One recommendation: it is freezing this weekend, and we waited for well over an hour in the freezing cold for a cable car. Went out again at night time and could just hop on. Looks great at night time,so unless you are travelling with young children, go at night and use the time during the day for other things. If you want your photo taken hanging off the car, just walk to one of the waiting cars and ask one of the friendly conductors....

Very good location, pretty, charming hotel with an old and fun elevator. There is free parking as well. AMAZING breakfast! The staff is nice and helpful and prices are really decent. Close to restaurants and public transit. We recommend this hotel.

Without hesitation we chose the Mayflower again after staying there last yr., and do not plan to stay anywhere else when visiting SF in the future. The location just above Nob Hill and 3 blocks from Union Square is perfect for accessing restaurants, shopping and public trans hub to tourist sites. The rooms are large and comfortable and we LOVE the CHARM of the entire place. The employees are friendly, patient, helpful and all seem like family who really take pride in maintaining this wonderfully, unique 1926 hotel. If you hate blah chain hotels, Hotel Mayflower is the place for you. Enjoy the aromas of scones, sweet breads and tea biscuits baking each afternoon that you can enjoy the following morning along with bagels, toast, boiled eggs, cheeses, oatmeal and cereal and fruit. The milk & juice are not watered down like some breakfast buffets and the towels and bath cloths are thick and clean, all examples that the Mayflower staff seeks to treat you like
true guests, not just paying customers. There are 2 laundry facilities and 2 markets on the block which was super convenient for us. Also walk 3 blocks S to the Nob Hill Cafe for fantastic Italian. Anyone who complains about any part of their stay at the Hotel Mayflower is just too picky- especially at the super reasonable prices they charge.
