“Convenient and charming”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2011

I love the fact that the hotel keeps a low profile; it keeps its atmosphere quaint and charming. The hotel's decor is not modern but that adds to its charm. It has sort of an old school European feel to it, especially with its old fashioned elevators. The hotel is also tastefully decorated with murals on the walls, hallways and doors.

The hotel's location is excellent; it's just a short walk to the cable cars, Union Square, Chinatown and Powell Station. It's also a quiet area with a corner store right next door and a laundromat just a few stores down. If you're looking for convenience without being smack in the middle of the hustle and bustle, this is the hotel for you.

The rooms are fantastic; I simply ADORE the two walk in closets provided in my room. So much storage space helped kept the room clutter free. The beds are comfortable and warm. The mini kitchenette was a nice bonus; there's a fridge, a microwave, sink, plates and cutlery.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The room rates include a continental breakfast which are basically assorted pastries, tea coffee, juice and hot chocolate. I suppose eating only cookies, muffins and bread can get quite tedious if you've an extended stay but again, the hotel's location allows for one to simply find breakfast elsewhere.

Overall, I would really recommend this hotel. It's in a good, safe location, the price doesn't stress one's budget and the rooms are airy with plenty of space.

Loved it. First off, they don't guarantee parking, but if you come during the weekend there is free street parking right next to them. We were able to snag one of their spots but only a compact car fits through the entrance.
It is very close to a the cable car - which will take you to the train. We left our car in the parking garage and never used it!
$90 a night? Yes its true. The rooms were a little small, yes, but who is ever in their rooms when they are visiting san francisco? They were clean, quiet, and had a refrigerator for leftovers and snacks.
Breakfast was decent. A nice continental. We had a hardboiled egg, muffin, oatmeal with fruit, and some toast with nutella everyday!
Overall, the perfect place for us.

We stayed here for 5 nights in May this year. It is conveniently located to either walk to Union Square or take the Cable Car over the hill to Fisherman's Wharf. The building is old, with quaint original elevators, the rooms were comfortable, and we really appreciated the large closet for our clothes & suitcases. Even though our room faced the street, the noise wasn't intrusive, apart from the occasional fire engine. Breakfast was pretty basic - tea/coffee, OJ, cereal, muffins, etc . Staff were very friendly & helpful.

What a great hotel, and fabulous people on the reception too! We stayed four nights, and as tourists were very happy with both the hotel position and the room. We are a family of four so the "double double" was great value (for SF) for us and we all loved it. Breakfast was free and the room included a fridge and microwave so plenty of opportunity to economise on meals if necessary. The room was old but well maintained. Reception staff were terrific and really took their time to help us make the right choices during our stay.

Za Pizza is easy walking distance and is right next to Swensen's ice cream (closed on Mondays) - both well worth the walk. You'll pass both if you walk from the hotel along Hyde Street to the crooked Lombard Street that you heard so much about.

Mayflower is not an modern hotel but is has charm and it is tidy and clean. Our room was quiet, clean and had a small kitchenette. Breakfast is more than fine to American standards, There are two computers for travellers who didn't bring their laptop and want to check their mails. It has an elevator. People at reception were very friendly and helpful. And it is in the center of San Francisco. Compared to other hotels in the city center, Mayflower is really a bargain and offers great value for money!

This is an old style hotel. Neat upkeep. There was a little mold in the bathroom and a yellow stain in front of toilet. Otherwise value was great, 5 minutes walking from Chinatown and Union Square. Great little market next door. They had a few different things at their continental breakfast, overall good. THE BEST PART IS THAT THIS IS A GREAT VALUE FOR S.F., if you have low expectations, you'll be very happy! I accidentially stayed an extra day and they were great about it, did not charge more or get annoyed. Has an oldstyle elevator, COOL.

Overall quality of the hotel is not great. The standard room I stayed in is old and on the dirty side. Bedsheets, towels, and blankets are worned down. Stayed on the 4th floor and the WIFI connection comes and goes. Was only able to connect 10% of the time. Stayed over a friday night and the noise outside on the street was incredibly loud - so loud that I was woken up three times in one night with the windows shut. The only positive thing about this hotel is the friendly owners.
