“Comedy Queuing”
Review of Cobb's Comedy Club

Cobb's Comedy Club
Reviewed April 30, 2013

On our recent trip to SanFrancisco we joined friends at the Cobb's Comedy Club on Columbus Avenue to see Kevin Nealon's act. Luckily we were able to purchase tickets at the door (friends had already booked online) at US$27.50 each. Our show was scheduled to start at 10.15 however the doors didn't open until 10pm so start wasn't exactly on time and that didn't bother us. There was a long queue that went around the corner and standing in the cold could've been worse when the weather is colder. The show started with a host who was rather funny, followed by the supporting comedian who was a bit off-kilter for my humor. Kevin's performance was mostly entertaining and somewhat R-rated with only a brief low point mid-show when he took some rather unique questions from the audience. We had a couple of drinks whilst watching the show which were rather prompt when you got to order at table service. Even though we were at the back end of the club it wasn't too distant a view and overall was an enjoyable fun evening spent with friends.

Reading some previous reviews I don't get it. This review will be about the club, not the comedians, because lets face it, they change every other night. The club itself is one of the best I've ever been in. Spacious, comfortable seats and a nice big stage. Had be two beers, watched a very funny Brian Posehn and headed back the hotel. The only down side is that they only let you in at 10:15 for a show that's supposed to start at 10:30. Not sure why they just don't open earlier in the evening and serve food and drinks....must be a bylaw of some kind.

There wasn’t anyone famous performing on the night we went to the Cobb Comedy Club, but we love stand-up and thought it would be fun. They kind of pack you in at tiny tables and require a two-drink minimum, but the staff was nice. We split a chicken sandwich for dinner and the waitress split it for us and plated it separately. Overall, a typical comedy club venue.

My husband and I dropped by this place to see a comedy show. The show was sold out. We were told we could wait in a "stand by" line and if there happens to be any other tickets available we would be able to buy them. We were second in line, there was one other couple in front of us. We were waiting for about 45 minutes and then the couple that were behind us, were able to get in because some guy came out of the club and told them he could "hook them up", because he happened to know them. To be honest, I could have cared less if I got in or not, but the couple in front of me were the first in line and the lady was pregnant and they were waiting for over an hour to get tickets. They were told there were no tickets available and saw some guy gloat about how he could "pull some strings" and get the couple in behind us. I understand this happens at alot of businesses (ie: if you know somebody, you can get in), but for the love of god, make this happen behind closed doors! The man who was in front of us saw this happen and asked the ticket clerk what was the point of a "stand-by" line and she didn't really have anything to say. She should have told the manager at least so that couple ahead of us wouldn't walk away hating the place. To be honest, I wouldn't go back after witnessing that either. That's 4 people who saw shady business, and will never be a customer of yours ever!

The opening act was funny. So looking forward to seeing Tracy Morgan from 3d rock. Was disgusted. Vulgar is WAY too much of an understatement. It wasn't even funny. Extremely disappointed. It was just gross and a waste of money. Food was gross too.
