“A cracking experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2013 via mobile

I visited the Franciscan on the last night of a three week tour of America and was hoping for a memorable night.

Seeing 'whole crab' mentioned on several items on the menu, I went for Petit Filet Mignon Steak and Crab for a not very bargain price of $49 thinking that I would be getting crab meat ready to eat. When it arrived, the steak was indeed very petit but the crab came complete with a set of crackers to break the shell. This is probably more my ignorance rather than any fault of the restaurant, but I spent the meal fighting the crab for its meat as I inexpertly wrestled with the crackers.

As other reviewers have pointed out the view to Alcatraz is magnificent. The blush cocktail is worth a try and you are eating in a restaurant frequented by the stars of the past. But, the tables are small the prices are high and I for one, didn't have the relaxing long evening I was hoping for. The whole thing felt a little rushed.

Maybe a different evening and a different choice from the menu would have left me feeling that it was a five star experience.

One other note, the restaurant has excellent street car links and car parking is close by. The Powell/Hyde Cable Car is only a couple of blocks away to finish your evening with a memorable trip back to the City.

“Loved this place”

For sure a place for tourists, but the food was very good and you can´t beat the views of the ocean and Alcatraz.

Very friendly service too.

“Views and food amazing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2013

This restaurant is in the mayhem of Fisherman's Wharf but its position means you have great views across the bay towards Alcatraz. You can just go for a drink at the bar or opt for the great menu of mainly fish with some meat dishes. The $29 prix fixe is very good value. The food was excellent and we had a window table to enjoy the views also. Every window table has a pair of binoculars so you can watch the boats go by. Staff are friendly and helpful.

“great views and atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2013

We had a mid week dinner about 6pm and enjoyed the view of Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge and the bay as the sun was setting. Restaurant was set up to maximise the view, food was nice and we enjoyed cocktails at the bar.

“Would return in a heartbeat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2013

I was skeptical to eat here; however, we needed an indoor place to eat quick as it had started to rain. My family loves seafood so we were looking forward to a good meal, and Franciscan Crab Restaurant did not disappoint. We got seated in a table next to the window and our kids were able to see Alcatraz through the binocular that that restaurant provides. This was the fastest, most efficient services we had received during our trip. The waiter entered our order electronically and it was sent to the kitchen immediately. The food was very well seasoned and well cooked. We had the double crab and double shrimp skillet. The kids enjoyed the macaroni and cheese and “huge” ice cream. We were happy with our lunch selection and would return in a heartbeat.
