“Authenic chinese at a steal of a price!”
Reviewed May 21, 2012

Go where the locals go...this is it! Large portions, most served family style. DE-licious & fresh! Don't be put off by the chinese menu! Our waiter was easy to communicate with. Entire meal for two with one glass of wine each...under $25! Awesome

“Chinese home cooking”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

The best 'home' cooking meets and authentic chinese dishes, especially the goose! No fancy atmosphere here, just great food.

“Near the end of Chinatown; Great Food!”
Reviewed August 19, 2011

About five adults ate here one late afternoon after a flight into SF from the East coast. One of your group closely spoke the Chinese language. We got a table with about a 10 min wait. They only serve you chop sticks to eat. They do have forks, but you will have to ask for them. We tried the goose dish, the duck, chicken and livers with wonton soup. We were very surprised at the good service and large portions of food. It was very good. We even took food to go. The price was very reasonable; better than what you would expect in SF area. Stand in line for an hour for good food, large portions and very reasonable prices.

“Best chinese in San Fran”
Reviewed August 1, 2011

Ate here last night after a long day... Roasted ducks in the window + huge portions at a low price + only caucasians there - best food! You know its good when the owner/host takes a break, sits down with his family and eats next to you. Will be going back...

“Cheap and ok”
Reviewed April 22, 2011

Went to Yee's twice while on business in SF. This place is cheap - especially with their 3 entrees for $15.99 deal though with a catch that I will go into later.

First visit came after a whole day of sightseeing throughout the SF area. Lots of walking from Nob Hill to Fisherman's Wharf, Ghiradelli Square, Pier 39, North Beach, and all over Chinatown. Finally decided on Yee's as we wanted to dine at a "hole-in-the-wall" place full of locals. Placed two take-out orders of their roast duck + roast pork over rice combos ($7.50 with tax each as of 6/19). Unfortunately, they were out of roast pork so substituted with bbq pork (i.e. the red pork). The pork was good, no complaints there. Although the duck was tasty and cooked well, they were on the extremely small/not meaty side. One thing we really liked about the take out order was that they actually included bok choy with the rice! The veggie made the takeout order into a more complete meal, i.e. meats, rice, and veggie. The sauce that was poured over the rice was quite good as well, just wished the duck was meatier.

Second visit was a sit-down dinner. Went for the 3 entrees for $15.99 deal plus a couple of additional dishes. Before I go into that, we were pleasantly surprised that we were given a free bowl of artichoke soup/broth. It was a very simple soup with a couple of pieces of artichokes, but good. As for the dinner, we got 1) Deep Fried Flounder with sauce 2) Salt & Pepper Shrimp 3) Seafood Tofu Clay Pot 4) Kong Xin Cai 5) Whole Roast Duck. The last two items were not from the $15.99 deal. First, the fish was quite small while the salt/pepper shrimp was overcooked as they came out soaking in oil. The seafood tofu claypot, though good, was NOT a claypot. It was a mere mini metal wok. The most disappointing was the duck. For a whole duck, it was really devoid of meats. It actually looked like half a duck - for $7/duck I guess that is to be expected.

As with most "hole-in-the-wall" restaurants in Chinatown, there was only one bathroom per sex and it was essentially a closet. To get to it, you must walk through the dish-washing part of the kitchen with dirty/used plate/bowls stacked everywhere. I got so tired of waiting to wash my hands in the bathroom that I just washed them over the industrial sized kitchen sink.

Overall, the dinner was somewhat disappointing, not bad, but also not great. Came out to about $45. Decent meal - A-OK. Bear in mind - cash only.
