Ordered the 'cod' and chips. Dreadful - turned out to be rock salmon, dry, tasteless and unappetising. Waiters dressed fine dining style but suits grubby - manager in jeans and shirt!! They removed all our food from the bill - need i say more?

While recently at the wharf, me and my wife decided to try Fisherman's Grotto for lunch. As soon as we walked in we were sat and introduced to our waiter Tito. The atmosphere was wonderful and our view from the window table was fantatstic. I ordered the fish tacos and was blown away by the flavor and freshness, the best fish tacos Ive ever had. Tito was delightful, always on top of our dining needs and a great coversationist. All in all, a really really good seafood joint with prompt and friendly service.

When walking though the Pier Market restaurants and through the outside stands- we always get our clam chowder bowls from the Fisherman's Grotto. Great clam chowder!

If you are looking for a nice place to eat on Fisherman's Wharf, try this one out. It is a bit pricey for dinner (entrees from $20 to $36) but if you go for lunch you can get a lunch special for around $12. We had the fish taco and the salmon patty specials, and were able to enjoy white table cloths, china and silver service, a professional waitstaff, and best of all, a nice three sided view of the bay and wharf area.

So if you come for lunch, don't be content to eat on the street, although there is covered seating there. Ask to sit upstairs, and walk up the wide, carpeted stairway and into dining from a past and more luxurious era. This place has been around since 1935 but has been redecorated. The carpet is blue with yellow raincoated fishermen on it. The bar is all dark wooded elegance with a stained glass window, a fireplace and blue leather armchairs. Try it out!
