“Try the duck and the crispy rice soup!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2014

This place deserves a 5 star review. I have been coming here for over a decade and every time it is a treat. We come here for a quite dinner knowing that we will not be rushed and that the service will be very polite. This is not a touristy place and you will rarely meet tourists here.

“Overpriced and over-rated”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2013

Last night we went to LaVie for the first time. In our opinion, the food was nothing special and overpriced. We ordered the Vietnamese crepe as an appetizer, which was very good and freshly made, when it finally arrived. Our entrees were 2 chef's specials, a dish with sea bass and sugar snap peas, and a dish of spicy mango with chicken and shrimp. Both were very ungenerous. The sea bass dish was tasty, the fish was fresh, but there wasn't much of it. The spicy dish was VERY spicy and skimpy on both shrimp and chicken.
When we arrived there was a very large party in the middle of the dining room, but few other guests. We had to signal the waiter to get his attention to place our order, then wait an eternity to get our food. Every other diner in the place was eating before we were served. To the restaurant's credit, they finally apologized for the slow service, and explained that our order had gotten backed up behind the large party. That was not a good excuse, in my opinion. If that was going to happen, they should have explained it much earlier. It is reasonable to assume that the kitchen can handle several parties at once. Besides the big party, there were only 6 of us in the whole place, and many empty tables.
If we never go back, we won't be disappointed.

“A Gem”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2013

A friend took us here long ago knowing that we really like Vietnamese food. We were not disappointed. It's a great find and whenever we visit, there's never a wait. The service is friendly and restaurant well-decorated.

“Fun Find”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2012

A friend recommended this place and we are so glad she did. Each item we ordered was tasty and great. The noodles were excellent too. So fun to find a restaurant that offers an interesting and diverse menu. Service was efficient and friendly.

Must have the crab, from the presentation to the taste was the best we have had. Great spot to get the local experience in San Fran.
