“Average food, average service sums it up”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2013 via mobile

In the congested Fisherman's Wharf district, the major positive for this restaurant is that it is quiet with comfortable seating in attractive surroundings
The food is just ok--greasy bread, thickly breaded greasy fish, miniscule cole slaw serving. Great margarita, though tiny.
We appreciated the break with our small children, away from the crowds, but would not recommend the food.

“This is the worst”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2013

We had been to this Restaurant many times over the years. It is now a disgrace to San Francisco and to Fishermen's Wharf. It started with the warmed up bread and went downhill from there. I ordered Crab Cakes and got two overcooked " hockey pucks " with ice cold rice and vegetables. When I mentioned this to our waiter I was given another small plate of (you got it ) more cold food.
Service was awful, three tables around us came after us and were finished before we had our meals.
If you are a tourist do not ruin your trip by coming to a place living off of the reputation of previous owners. These people do not know what Fishermans Wharf means and that is a selection of FISH on the menu. The worst meal in this City in many many years.

“Really awful! Anywhere else would have been better”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2013 via mobile

On our last night in San Fran we decided to go to Castagnola's as it looked nice from the outside and promised steak & seafood.

Where to start with how awful (and expensive it was)?

Limited menu, dark and dingy, we sat in the restaurant but could hear the off key singer ruining popular songs from the front bar, the food wasn't great (we didn't have seafood as the other people around us didn't look like they were enjoying theirs).

The main course was dumped on our table before we were half way through starters, so it was cold by the time we got to it and were juggling the plates ourselves as there was no one to take them away.

They then gave us someone else's bill (that had already been paid) and we had to wait to try and get someone to get our bill (only 4 other tables occupied so not run off their feet!)

Needless to say, the only restaurant on our trip where we didn't leave a tip!

“I wish we would have gone somewhere else!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2013 via mobile

I wished I would have looked at trip advisor before we ate here! It is usually right on target for getting info from others! On the waterfront you would expect to find something really good. It wasn't! The view was good but that wAs it. My husband had crab and I had fish and chips. Please eat somewhere else if u are going to spend that much money! Don't recommend.

“Fun Bar - average food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013

9 PM on a Thursday night and surprisingly not too many restaurants on Jefferson Street by Fisherman's Wharf were open (or seemed to be) but this was! There was also a very lively crowd in the bar and a single musician playing and signing.

We were surprised though that the food was just OK. Crab cakes were a little burnt. I sometimes get the impression that "destination" or "vacation" restaurants don't care about the repeat guests - they know they will not get them. I may have a drink in the bar, but no need to stop here for a rather expensive (dinner for two with 2 beers was $85) meal.
