“surprisingly good for a restaurant in a highly touristy area”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2013

i went there with my husband thinking it would be hard to find good food in such a touristy area. and it is not true. Scoma is touristy but it is also good. the fish was fresh, the vegetable were steamed perfectly . the waitress was caring and knowlegeable . the atmosphere reminiscent ofa fish restaurant near the beach in the east coast . we were very pleased

“Very disappointed.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2013

I ordered the Pacific Cod and my husband ordered a fried trio. We were told this was one of the best restaurants around so needless to say, we were very disappointed. The seating was overcrowded and the food was below average. Service was not very impressive either. Overall- high priced, low quality food and poor service is not a good combination.

“Been going there for 40 years...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2013

My first time going to Scoma's I was a young child in the Late 60’s. I love going back every chance I get. I only order one thing, Cioppino. Both Normal and Lazyman’s. this is a dish my mom made me for years, and my kids favorite meal. If you don’t love seafood, don’t order this.
Nice thing is no reservations accepted, so timing is everything, but they have two nice bars to wait at. Because no reservations are accepted and because they do not do a “kick back” or ”concierge commissions” so most of the concierge will not recommend them.
Great food, great service, eat the bread, it is great as well.
If you don’t like heavy fish taste, try the Swordfish.

“Nostalgic charm”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2013

Walking down the pier to Scoma's you pass the fishing boats and it's great to see that the fish comes right in and across to the restaurant. Talk about fresh! The waiters all had that classy professional approach and the service was outstanding. We had a nice table with a view of the boats and loved that the restaurant was quiet so we could enjoy a romantic dinner. We ordered crab and it was delicious. The salad and bread were pretty good.

“Consistently Great! Third time's a charm.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2013

Had dinner here a few nights ago with some friends. It has been a few years since I've been here and it is still great. I always remembered the great seafood, fresh catch daily and the good service. It was everything I remembered it to be. We were greeted and seated promptly upon arrival. Our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly. Our meals were all very delicious - fresh seafood, nicely prepared. We all chose the prix fixe menu and it was a great deal - 3 course meal for $44.95 per person.

You can't beat the view and to know that they send their own boats out daily to catch your supper is pretty cool! After dinner, go for a nice walk along Fisherman's Wharf and Ghirardelli Square and then take the Cable Car back to your hotel - now that's a perfect way to spend an evening in San Fran!
