“Wonderful experience great meal”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

Our first time spending the evening with this nice group of people. We walked down from Washington Square and what a wonderful experience we had for dinner. The rabbit looked great but we chose the stuffed pork loin-the best ever. The wine list was complete, salads were fresh and the dessert was perfect. The place was quiet early but filled up by 8pm on a Thursday. Can not wait to go back.

“food worth the price”
Reviewed October 30, 2012

This was our second trip to Albona in 3 years...what an experience and what a treat....not the traditional Italian (or Italian-American) we all get used to. The chef/owner is from the Istrian peninsula in the north Adriatic between the Veneto and Croatia so it's a interesting mix of cuisines...I had a lasagna-type dish with bread crumbs - fabulous; one of our friends had a rack of lamb that he said was the best he'd ever eaten (and we're OLD so there's lots of food under these belts).....a friend knows the owner so when we mentioned the name we were comped 2 appetizers - what a friendly, personal place

“Best Meal we had in San Francisco!”
Reviewed October 23, 2012

We found this via Trip Advisor and it's a good thing. You'd never find the restaurant on your own.

We're serious foodies and ate at a Michelin star restaurant this trip. I've got to say Albona was better. Certainly, the Michelin star place had far more innovative cuisine. There's nothing innovative about Albona; this is Eastern European comfort food. It's just executed exceptionally well.

We split the gnocchi with cumin sirloin sauce. The gnocchi were more like small balls of mashed potatoes, but they were great and the sauce was fantastic.
I had the rack of lamb with a mustard / herb crust and a vegetable "napoleon." Lamb perfectly cooked and seasoned and the sauce it came with was luxurious and rich -- clearly the result of hours of simmering. My partner got the pork stuffed with sauerkraut. Who knew pork and sauerkraut could taste this good? The sauerkraut was quite mild and was the perfect compliment to the pork. I can't come up with words to adequately describe how good it was -- how good either entree was, actually.

This is a small place with a rather drab interior and obscure wine list. Definitely not a place to take children. Believe the high trip advisor rating on this one. This place is a must stop for any serious foodie. And if you're not a serious foodie, the straightforward comfort food cuisine and generous portions will make you very happy. Go.

“Perfect Night”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

This restaurant came highly recommended to us and now we know why. We were lucky enough to get a reservation on our last evening in San Francisco and the meal made the night and the vacation end in a most memorable way. Thanks to Samuel Hernandz and his staff for making our meal a delightful experience.
