“Lot of fun, good food, great service, unique”
Reviewed April 23, 2014

We had a really unique experience at Forbes Island. The food was very good, the service was great and a good time was enjoyed by our entire party.

There is better food in SF, of course, but what we had was all very good. We tried most things on the menu and there is nothing not to recommend.

It is a fun place to be taken as a whole for the entire experience and not just the parts. This is a great case of the whole being greater than the sum of it's parts.

Com with a good attitude and have fun.

“Superb evening!”
Reviewed April 13, 2014

Having booked this restaurant before we arrived in San Francisco, we were delighted to recognise it while visiting Pier 39. It's beautiful, well maintained and the fact that you can explore the island ahead of your meal gave us some wonderful photo opportunities as the sun began to set.

The staff were warm, friendly and extremely polite. The interior is small but awsome - an open fire, stained glass windows, beamed ceiling and oil paintings. It had so much character, but tasteful rather than tacky. And it rocks gently like a boat, which is not something you experience in other restaurants unless you've been drinking!

The food was superb and portions generous. Service was excellent throughout and we were welcome to take our time and simply enjoy a romantic meal together. We really had a wonderfully enjoyable time and would recommend this to anyone. Thank you guys!

“Unique Experience!”
Reviewed April 2, 2014 via mobile

This restaurant is truly unique and the good is excellent! How often can you eat underwater on the nation's only private lighthouse in a place that looks like Mr. Crab's House (from The TV show, Sponge Bob Square Pants). Be sure to climb the lighthouse for the great views of Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the seals of Pier 39. Just about everything on the menu is delicious...especially the au gratin potatoes and short ribs.

Great for families or a romantic dinner. It does rock a bit, but not enough to make you seasick. Be sure to book in advance as it fills up quickly.

“A fun experience”
Reviewed March 31, 2014

The little ferry takes you out to this floating island, the trip is too short as the captain is charming and the atmosphere festive. You are in little danger of high seas, as the island is floating in the bay inside the docks and jettys. You can feel a gentle sway in the restaurant, which is downstairs. You can enjoy a drink outside if the weather is good, hike up the steps of the lighthouse to see the view, and then back downstairs to the restaurant for dinner. The night we were there was chilly, but there was a nice fire in the fireplace inside the restaurant for a very cozy atmosphere.

It gets crowded and slightly noisy, but it is a festive crowd. We were not expecting the food to be great - after all, it is all about the location. We were pleasantly surprised at the offerings - we both had the fresh sole that was a special, and it was delicious, as was our crème brulee dessert. A really fun evening and a special treat.

Do NOT miss the ladies' room - it is through the cabin of the man who used to live here - a charming room full of antiques, where even male guests can peek in and marvel at the place.
