everything was superb. the service was exceptional but unobtrusive. the food presentation and the food was fantastic. and it was a fairly quiet restaurant as well so you could hear one another talk. i did the 5 course tasting and my wife did the 3 course tasting. every plate was excellent and one of the nice things was that when you have the 3 course tasting menu, you choose just that: three courses from among five. there is no requirement that it must be appetizer, meat or fish, and dessert or some similar combination. this gives you the flexibility to eat on the light or heavy side. i had corn soup with truffles and lobster, duck with cherry and jus, char, a seafood combination (abalone, tuna carpaccio, and oyster), and dessert. my wife had tomato and beet salad, squab, and lobster risotto. both of us left thinking this was the best restaurant we had been to and we have been to a good number of top SF restaurants. we will certainly make this our "special occasion" restaurant to go to in the future.
