I gave this restaurant a four which is a very good score. So let me start by saying it is Very Good but not great. But this is an opinion. I will share the opinions of six diners.
Service is excellent. They are extremely attentive and professional.
Ambiane is excellent. The room is beautifully decorated and well lit.
Kitchen. You can get a glimpse of the kitchen and see the artists at work. A very small kitchen with about 8 chefs in the kitchen creating beautifully presented works of art.
Presentation is excellent. The food is prepared in an artistic format.
Now for the disappointments:
Food: Three out of six thought the appetizer they ordered was very good and the other three said it was okay. For the main most enjoyed the main but everyone raved over their dessert and some were unwilling to share a taste :) The wine selection is great but I ordered a mixed drink to start and the glass had a strange smell (could be the SF water, soap, or drying method). It ruined the drink experience but I did not send it back.
So in a nutshell this is a very good restaurant but I really can't say the flavor of the food "knocked my socks off" but I did enjoy the overall experience. It's not fair to compare to French food I've had in France or even the US because it restaurant is unique, but for my taste it was good but not great. Also one in our group had the Kobe beef and was disappointed. The flavor was great but for and extra $75 (plus $90) it was a small portion for a man.
