“Iconic Restaurant Hasn't Changed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2014

This was our third visit to this iconic restaurant. Came here to celebrate a couple of birthdays. Valet parking is $9 which is not bad for the Bay Area. Came 15 minutes prior to our reserved time. Immediately taken to a corner booth. I know a lot of people prefer these but it was really cramped for the four of us.
You have a choice of four sizes of prime rib. Price range is mid 30's to 40's. Baked or mashed potatoes, salad (tossed at the table) and yorkshire pudding are included in the dinner.
The prime rib is finished off to order table side by a chef with a zeppelin. The meat portions seemed smaller than the last time we were here (seven years ago).
With drinks, corkage, dinner and desert, the bill came to around $300 which we thought was reasonable.
There is always a lot going on in the restaurant. If you're looking for a quiet dinner, this is not the place. If you want prime rib, efficient service and a reasonable tab in SF, I would consider this place.

“Super Festive, Super Yummy”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2014

My parents were in town from out of state and have wanted to eat here for a long time. Since it was a Sunday in December, the place was packed with people ready to have a good meal. Nice people shared their cocktail table in a hallway with us. The cocktail waitress was prompt and the Hendrick's martinis were ice cold and ample - more than just a glassful, you get the glass it was shaken in. The place is huge, with a number of rooms. We were seated cozily in a corner booth. The waitress was friendly and professional - all the service was great. Salad is spun tableside, old school and very tasty. Prime Rib was awesome. Tender, flavorful sooo satisfying! The baked potatoes were awesome. I didn't love the creamed spinach and none of us could finish the huge portion of Yorkshire pudding. I think the meal is a great value, considering everything is included, salad, meat, side. We had a great time and I will definitely return.

“Good, but not Great...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2014

We ate here the other night for my husband's birthday. We were seated within a few minutes of our reservation time. It took a while for our server to get over to our table because it looked like he got sat a party of 8 right before we got sat. (Which was poor seating on the host/managers part.) Having worked in the food industry for 15 years I'd much rather the manager or host come let me know they just sat our server and that it would be a few minutes before we could be sat versus sitting at a table for 10 minutes wondering where our server is with no bread or water. We could have had a drink at the bar and been perfectly happy! It took a while to get our drinks before dinner too (don't know why, server busy?) When we did get them they were good. My martini was served with a little cocktail shaker and I actually got 2 ½ drinks out of one order!! :) That was nice! The food was good but nothing amazing. Prime rib was tender and cooked to requested temps but the mashed potatoes & gravy were REALLY salty and there was barely any gravy (Maybe a TBSP?) Overall the food was good, just not great. Service did improve over the course of the meal which we were happy about. It was VERY loud and crowded, tables were really close together, so don't go in expecting an intimate meal or quiet conversation. Good for a larger party though if you wanna be loud! The house made tiramisu was delicious, highly recommend ordering!! We did have a good time but I doubt we would go back. There are many other fabulous steakhouses in the city that I would rather eat at. If you are thinking about going, I would go just to say you've been but don't expect an amazing meal. It reminded us less of a traditional steakhouse and more of a traditional hofbrau. Give it a whirl though, you might have a different experience but overall, we would not return.

“great drinks and very good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2014

expect a long wait here even with reservation - well known to locals AND tourists.
Excellently made Hendricks martini and Manhattan at busy bar
Prime Rib is what you should get - other good looking options but for crying out loud, they are the House of Prime Rib. It is exactly what you want - perfectly cooked to medium rare as requested, very good horseradish sauce and good sides
