“HOPR is heaven on earth!”

I have been to HOPR twice now to celebrate my birthdays (55&57), and I will probably visit next year for my next birthday!
It is truly a wonderful place for foodies, and normal folks to celebrate any occasion, or just a great night on the town!
Starting with their valet parking, ( a priceless feature in SF!), and on down to the food, wine, deserts; and the service isn't bad either! Oh, right; and the prime rib? Yummmmm!
I recommend the HOPR to anyone who wants a memorable experience!

“The Best of the Best Prime Rib”

Excellent service and food, elegant dining. The roast beef here is the best and leanest. It is a limited menu with one seafood selection. We come here whenever we are in town. You need to make a reservation at least a month in advance.

“Sumptious and elegant”

The last stop of our visit to the San Francisco area was at this fabulous restaurant. It does little advertising, relying on persons like myself to do it for them. Reservations are a must and must be made well in advance of the day you'd like to dine here. There is valet parking, so that is not an issue. We were a bit early and after a warm greeting by the Matre d', were directed to a pleasantly decorated room off to the side of the taproom. Our drinks order was taken and served rapidly by a professionally friendly waitress. The rest of our party arrived and we were escorted to our booth table. All the wait staff are in black and white, the table staff with a long white apron as well. Our waiter greeted us, welcomed us and took the new arrivals order. The restaurant became more bust-ly; the wait staff must lose ten pounds a night with their rapid movements. Anyway, drinks were served, water was poured from one of two carafes that were left with us, a good sized loaf of bread with crispy crust and creamy butter was presented and our order was taken. Appetizers came swiftly and were extremely good. The menu is brief and to the point; after all the name says it all; one comes here for the steak. Starting with a fresh salad of iceberg and Romaine lettuce with assorted crunchy veggies spun with a superb dressing is done table-side by the waiter with a complete description of what is going on as he made the salad. Each person is served with a flourish and the portions are large. A Yorkshire pudding accompanies. There are four cuts of prime rib available, running from the city cut of 6-8 oz up to the largest of over a pound. Baked potato with sour cream, chives and bacon bits, creamed corn or spinach, and a bit of corn bread accompanies. An elderly gentlemen, Gus, the Matre d' emeritus moves about the room with an eye on everything. He stopped at our table for a minute or two to share his wit; a nice gentlemen and a reminder of the history of the place. The steak for each person is carved as close to table-side as possible from an enormous warmer by a chef - Chef Francisco for us. The steak was superb - a city cut for me - and was perfect to my order. There is a steak knife at your place, but the steak is so well-prepared that it's hardly necessary. So delicious! I finished with strawberry shortcake: the old-fashioned kind with large, fresh strawberries, real whipped cream and scrumptious cake. Full, but not overly so, I was very happy.
The meal is expensive, but in balance with the ambiance, service and the food quality. I have no significant complaints. It gets a bit noisy but not unpleasantly so.
Top quality food, old-fashioned wonderful service make this a place we're already planning for a return visit.

“Simply melts in your mouth!!”

Note: this is a VERY expensive restaurant for families, and there are virtually NO menu options besides prime rib, but the food is incredible, the service is great, and the atmosphere is fantastic. meat is cut at the table, potatoes are made to your specification, and everything is superb in taste and flavor.

“Its an OK place”

I have been here a total of three times. Would i go a fourth time....maybeee or maybe not. Its an OK place and the prime rib to be quite honest is really nothing special. It has wayyyyyyy too much fat on it and i leave hungry because I don't want to sit pay over 40 bucks and eat fat! The ambiance is nice though but i wish the food was better. Would I recommend it? NO, there are way better places to eat in San Fran!
