“All hail Kumamoto!!”
Reviewed February 5, 2013 via mobile

We arrived around 2:30- 3:00 pm and waited no more than 15- 20 min. Like all the other reviews said, this is a small establishment with about 15-20 stools on a counter. Everyone was very nice and the food was great!! Everything was so fresh! We started with a couple of cold beers and a cup of clam chowder each. The chowder was good, although not the best I've ever had. We followed that up with a mixed dozen of oysters. Our favorite were the Kumamoto so we ordered another dozen of those. They were so fresh and tasty. I wish I had some now! I can't wait for our next trip to San Francisco. We will definitely be going back!

“Well worth the wait”
Reviewed January 20, 2013 via mobile

We arrived at 2:30 on Saturday afternoon and were seated a little after 4:00. It was well worth the wait. The seafood saland were great and packed with seafood. The atmosphere inside is great as well.

“Great Place”
Reviewed January 12, 2013

Another good local place - fresh seafood, great ambiance, long line. Not very many seats so the wait to eat is always long, unless you go early in the morning. However, it's not just about eating - you can buy the fish as well. Plus it's family-run.

“Best seafood experience in SF”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

We ate a dozen oysters apiece, the combination seafood salad with Louie dressing and even had room for a crab cocktail to finish it up. I can't say enough about how fantastic this place is. It just celebrated its 100 anniversary last year, and it's easy to understand why it has become an institution. Sure, you may have to wait 20 minutes for a seat at their tiny, diner-style bar, but the friendly staff will keep you well-hydrated and wanting for nothing. The seats are rickety, you're sharing mignonette and homemade horseradish with your neighbor, and the walk to the bathroom is through dishwater and crab shells, but it only adds to the charm of this place. If you're a germaphobe, this is not your place. But if you're interested in having an amazing seafood experience while in SF, this is a MUST GO!

“When you sit down to eat you know why you waited.”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

Had seen this place in the Lonely Planet book. Met a couple at a Springsteen concert who said don't miss it and others in a bar in Monterey who were equally glowing. It lived up to expectations. It's a tiny store front with a single, packed counter at which you eat. There is a very long line waiting to get in. The food is absolutely excellent, fresh, generous portions of salad prepared in front of you. The crab is amongst the best I have tasted and served by guys who genuinely seem to enjoy what they do, no BS just plain, honest service. The atmosphere is bustling and it is a real pleasure to eat there.
There are only two places like this that I have been to (Mersea Company Shed is the other) and they are both fantastic.
One tip - take cash, they don't accept cards.
