For completely authentic Chinese, go to Chinatown. For some James Bond-like glamour, come here. The food is interesting and tasty, but the real treat is the cocktail list, the impressive bar, and the intriguing décor. It's not a quiet spot, but it feels lively and exciting. The noodles were excellent.

The food was pleasant, but you would be disappointed if you were fresh off a plane from Beijing or Shanghai. It was all a little bland for anyone after authentic Chinese food. The strongest dish of the evening was the Crispy Cod which was delicate and tasty. They also had a chocolate dessert, made with TCHO chocolate, which was spectacular in presentation, complex and delicious (though had nothing to do with Chinese cuisine). Everything else (beef and green peppers, mushrooms & macadamia nuts, stir fry scallops, etc.) was fine. But that chocolate dessert aside, if the food were the only criteria for this review the rating would be a 3. It gained a four because everything else about the restaurant is well done. The decor is a solid upmarket contemporary take on a Westerner's view of China. The ground floor and restaurant level receptions are well staffed and efficient. The service is good (though it was a little disappointing that no-one actually spoke Chinese, and the waiter covered in tattoos was perhaps not quite the right note for this standard of venue?); and the table and crockery and the bar and the lighting all contributed to making one feel that this was an establishment "of a certain standing".

So it is a nice dining experience for Westerner's looking for safe exposure to Chinese cuisine. For something more authentic best take a walk up the hill to nearby Chinatown.

Had dinner solo at the bar. Great bartender, beautiful decor, incredible menu. Had the dumplings which were perfectly cooked and the portion was generous and the duck udon which was over the top delicious. The prices were surprisingly good given how swank the atmosphere is and how perfect the food is.

Okay, so we have gone there a couple of times, and I have to say that at this point, the food is just "okay." I know that some people love it, but really only a couple of things I think are outstanding. I know they are trying to be a very high end Chinese/Asian restaurant and they are definitely accomplishing that. The decor and music/sound system is excellent. Every time we have been there, the noise level has never been an issue. Things I would recommend are:
1. Crispy duck salad with pomegranate, pine nut and shallot
2. Black truffle roasted duck
3. Stir-fry lotus root, asparagus and lily bulb V with black pepper
4. Braised pork belly with aged vinegar sauce

Also, you HAVE to try some of the drinks at the bar. Julie is a great bartender and she always makes me my Velvet Phoenix even though it's not on the menu anymore!!!
