Great neighborhood restaurant. Delicious Cioppino (even the small is huge!) and oysters. Very busy and small with only a few tables. Recommend going at off-hours. Pricey (but what isn’t in San Francisco?) but worth it!

We had an excellent lunch at the Anchor Oyster Bar while vacationing in San Francisco. I think we just stumbled on the restaurant, or perhaps we had read about it and then stumbled upon it. Either way, glad we stumbled!

You put your name on a "reservation board" outside of the entryway and wait outside for your name to be called. We lucked out and were seated at a table by the window, so we could people watch. And, boy oh boy, was there some interesting people watching!! Let's just say, look out for "sock man" who wears, other than sandals and a scarf hat on his head, only a sock, and guess where? Welcome to San Francisco! (We got a picture of him, but I will keep it family friendly on tripadvisor.)

We started with 12 oysters on the half shell. Albeit pricey at $3 each (again, welcome to San Francisco!!), they were really good. Oh well, for the price, we did each get our own fork to eat them with. Ha, ha.

Then we also split the steamed black mussels. They, too, were really good.

Our server, who's name I wish we could remember, or had written down as it is not on the receipt, not only took good care of us, she was a lot of fun.

My wife and I flew to Oakland California on Sunday June 23, 2019, for my Cousin 65th Birthday Celebration. We stayed in Oakland to celebrate our 47th Wedding Anniversary on June 24th. I looked in TripAdvisor for a seafood restaurant worthy of celebrating our wedding anniversary. Based on the TripAdvisor reviews we chose Anchor Oyster Bar and Seafood Market, 579 Castro St., San Francisco, CA, 94114. Contact: (415) 431-3990.
Our Cousin and family joined us. We had a problem finding a close parking space so we parked a couple of blocks away. The walk gave us an opportunity to take in the beautiful surroundings. When we arrived at the restaurant, there were several people waiting on a bench outside. Alex walked outside and greeted us with a very kind and professional attitude. Our wait was approximately 10 minutes at the most.
Inside seating was limited to 4 to 5 tables and seating at the bar. Our server was very attentive. He recommended the 12 Oysters on a Half Shell and Large Cioppino. OMG! The food was absolutely amazing! I can’t stress enough that if you are planning a trip to San Francisco and you love great seafood, an intimate atmosphere, and a San Francisco experience, you must try Anchor Oyster Bar and Seafood Market, 579 Castro St., San Francisco, CA, 94114,
Lastly, we took a private tour of San Francisco. So if you have family or friends in the area ask them for a private tour of the city.

Hope you enjoy San Francisco!
