“Good seafood in the Castro - not great for a large group”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

Anchor is a Castro favorite and hasn't changed much over the years - always dependably good seafood. It's small and generally cramped so not a great place to appear with a group unless it's off hours.

“First time eating oysters”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

A friend that lived in the Castro took me here and introduced me to oysters. I had the beausoleil which I found out later is the best for introducing people to oysters because they have a more mild flavor. I've had their fish, clam chowder and other types of oysters since that first visit and have never been disappointed.

“Good but not perfect.”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

This is really dining on a counter top. It is really a fish shop with stools at the counter. The seafood is good. Oysters etc are opened as you order. A slight problem is the lack of hygienic food handling - for example squeezing lemon with bare hands and not using gloves to plate up food. If you can overlook this it is worth a try.

“Excellent Seafood and Loads of Personality”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

Accidentally found this restaurant while wandering around Castro. We happened to be at a wine shop, Swirls, across the street when another couple stopped in and mentioned they were waiting for Anchor to open for dinner. The four of us headed over about 3:45 to wait for the doors to open at 4:00. I'm so glad we stumbled onto this place!
It's so tiny it's hard to believe they are able to cook anything, let alone some really excellent fresh seafood. We had the oyster shooters, clam chowder and a sea bass daily special. The shooters were huge and very tasty. The clam chowder was really good as well. But the sea bass dish was so outstanding. The bass was grilled perfectly and was served with fresh garden veggies like baby potatoes, carrots and green beans. The sauce served with the fish was so good I wish I had the recipe (I eat a lot of fish and would love to be able to replicate that sauce at home!).
Great service, great food and great personality at this little gem in Castro!

“Fresh fresh! small and lovely place in Castro”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

It is really small, maybe 10 tables, and there are no reservations. Besides the door, write your name on the board and sit on the street bench until called. It's worth the wait. Reasonably priced amazing seafood and oysters. Great atmosphere for couples.
