Powell and Market Cable Car Turnaround

Reviewed May 7, 2013 via mobile

We went to Powell and Market where the cable car turns around. There was a long line of people waiting to get on the cable car. The strange thing was that the car was not full when it departed. As I did not want to waste an hour waiting for my cable car ride, I decided to walk uphill to the first cable car stop. It was a three minute leisurely walk. When the next cable car came along, hop on and enjoy the ride standing up holding onto one of the poles. The views are actually better standing up.

Save myself a good hour as well!

Long queue and no effort to move it. Seems to be plenty of cable cars but no effort to keep them moving. We got sick of waiting while other people sat on an already full cable car going nowhere. Would liked to have done it, looked intersting

Waited with a friend for about 30 minutes to get on the cable car at Powell for the 15-20 minute ride north to Fisherman Wharf area of town. The one-way ride was $6 which we paid onboard. The driver pints out different sites on the way including Lombard Street. We had a beautiful so great views of the bay and Alcatraz.

Overcrowded, so it doesn't offer much of a view of SF for the tourist. Unreliable, so it's not much good to commute or meet an appointment. But very scenic watching from the sidewalk.

We three adults had not ridden the cable car before and we enjoyed our trip. We started at the wharf end reasonably early in the morning and did not have a long wait. It was an enjoyable way to get to Market Street and we were interested in the architecture and views along the way. Children on board had a great time.
