The post office's interior has been refurbished back to it's original art deco beauty. A round the upper portion of the walls are marvelous WPA era pannels telling the history and story of San Francisco. Amazingly restored and beautiful.

The post office is non functuing as a PO.

I do not know the restaurants at the center.

Yank Sing is in the Rincon Center. It is a beautiful building. There are also many other restaurants in the building. The orginal SF post office is also inside the building. So worth going and having a look

I like to visit this center on my yearly visits to San Francisco. It consists of two buildings with shops, restaurants, offices and apartments that take up an entire block close to the Embarcadero. The original Streamline-Modern-style building (1940), known as the Rincon Annex, is a former post office building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The few shops are here as well as the restaurants in the form of a food court in the atrium on the ground floor. My favorite eatery is Yang Sing, which I think offers some of the best dim sum in the city. Myriad tables and chairs await diners in the huge atrium, which was added, along with the second building, during a big development project in the late 1980s. Additional tables stand outside in a large open area between the buildings.

Natural illumination pours through the atrium's 200-foot-long skylight, making the food court a cheerful place to eat, even on foggy days. I find "Water Column," an art installation by artist Doug Hollis here, to be fascinating. An 80-foot column of water drops descends from 4,000 holes in a big acrylic glass box at ceiling level.

The piece de resistance for me, however, is the former post office lobby. It displays the History of California murals on four walls, just below the ceiling. The 27 watercolors by Anton Refregier were produced from 1941-48 and tell the history of California and San Francisco's contributions to it.

We usually visit the lobby on weekends when an information desk has no one there. This time we went on a weekday and a man at the desk loaned us a binder with information about each mural. The desk also has free tourist brochures.

There were so many healthy dining options. I'm not used to that. I did have to pause when it was time to sort my trash: compost, recycle vs landfill :-)
