Would have rated this 4.5 stars if possible. Truly one of the best San Francisco restaurants with a wonderfully wacky ambience and terrific food.

The service by our waiter was excellent. Everything else was deplorable.

All food extremely salty and full of garlic - unpalatable.

Carpaccio took "wafer thin" to the extreme. We're talking scraping the plate and unsure if it's food or the patten on the plate you're trying to fetch up.

With so many other "good" restaurants in SF, we'd avoid this one.

We raised our concerns with the manager and only paid for the starters (which we actually ate), but we cannot believe this restaurant is so highly rated. Maybe we had a uniquely bad experience?

Came here on recommendation by a friend while on a business trip in SanFran. Parking is a problem (street) or there is valet.

The environment is diff (former movie theatre) but nice.

Food is very good/outstanding.

Warning: popular place and gets crowded with long waiting times...

This is a neat place on Mission Street in a city full of neat places. In one part of the restaurant you can watch old movies while you eat, but we weren't in that part and it was just fine. The fried chicken caught my eye and when the waitress explained it, I couldn't resist. Another in my party asked if they had anything else that sounded as good as that. Let me tell you, that was the most succulent chicken you can imagine - perfect crust drizzled in some kind of honey mixture. The duck was good, too, as was the Dungeness crab gratin. And the bread - it brought tears to your eyes. Can't wait to go back.

A former movie theater, this place is great fun. You enter from the street to a long corridor that is from its original movie house setting, something from the 1930's it looks. Then there are two large dining areas, one with a huge movie screen where foreign films are projected silently (with English subtitles), the other with in the area of the open kitchen. We were seated in the latter.

After a bit of a wait our server showed up, very pleasant and inviting. When asked for wine recommendations from the very expansive line up, he seemed to know many of them. He brought two small tastings to our wine queen who made the final selection. Very accommodating of him. I asked for a double cocktail but was informed their glasses were big enough only for a single. Little skinny glasses for cocktails? But he pulled it off and brought me a double filled to the brim. Hint: Get larger glasses in stock, folks.

Because the menu changes daily, our selections and how we enjoyed them may be irrelevant. But we found everything to our liking except one item: the calamari was overwhelmed with peppery spice such that we did not finish it (and the wine queen could eat calamari three times per day). The portions were adequate, some on the small side. But we were not disappointed.

Of much lesser importance: the room is really loud and the legs on the tables are configured such that we all kept getting entangled. If there are any tall people in your party, beware.

A fun place with good food and very attentive service.
