“Always a great brunch spot”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

Delicious brunch with everything from truffled omelettes to homemade "pop tarts". Get there as the doors open or you may not get a seat! I love to sit in the outdoor patio area. They now serve better coffee than they used to.

“A Winner in the Mission”
Reviewed March 9, 2013

Tourists may be wary of the Mission district in San Francisco, but foodies in the know throng to Foreign Cinema for wonderful meals in a fun and unusual space. Located in an old movie theater and showing films on a patio (heated in winter), Foreign Cinema offers a menu with many options, including a terrific and unusual fried chicken and well-shucked raw oysters. Service is helpful, friendly and efficient. The place is spacious, so even with the large crowds conversation is possible. The prices are reasonable and reservations are accepted. Cinema is entirely incidental to the dining experience.

“Great Venue / Restaurant”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

I was here for a business function in the private meeting space. It's a very nice place. The neighborhood is a little sketchy but don't let that discourage you; the best new spots in any city tend to be in upcoming areas. The food was phenomenal and service friendly and attentive. Will definitely return. Sorry no information on prices, etc. I did not pay. :-)

“Foreign Cinema a treat”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

Great concept - an old movie theatre showing movies on the patio outside... and yes the movie was Escape from Alcatraz!!!!
Great rustic location and the heaters on the patio made it a perfect night in early March.
The food was great from the unfried calemari to the warm pear salad to the seafood for dinner. We had the pot acreme for dessert and could not stop smiling about it. The server recommended a reasonably priced red wine and we enjoyed two bottles. All in all -- so glad we came to this San Francisco gem!!!!

“Go to Place in the Mission”
Reviewed March 1, 2013 via mobile

Loved it. The concept isa hoot, a restaurant based in an old theater. Movies still shown, but we sat inside. The ambience, though, good as it is, pales to the food. We started with the cod brandade, then a leek, onion, chard and spinach soup. Very rarely does such healthful fare taste so good. Then risotto galettes, with mushroom ragu, brussels sprouts, and reggianno. A feast of flavors. Wines were wonderful (try the Melon), and service above and beyond. A new go to place in San Francisco.
