“A favorite SF dinner experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

Super cool vibe - excellent, unique ambiance. Without even taking the food into consideration, the experience itself was great. If you're seated outdoors (definitely worth it), you'll be treated to an old foreign film being played on a big outside wall - sometimes with audio. The service was great, waitstaff very friendly and accommodating. The menu was super - the food excellent, possibly one of my favorite meal/experiences in SF. You get what you pay for, so be prepared for a pricier meal. Note: There is an extensive oyster bar, wine list and cheese menu, and the desserts were amazing.

“Fancy shmancy dinner place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2012

I had a very different experience in mind when I went to the Foreign Cinema. I was thinking it was a restaurant with a movie theater so you ate quality food but still watched a movie like in a movie tavern. That isn't quite what happens here.

At the FC, if you are seated outside, you'll see a movie projected on the wall. Sometimes there is audio. But basically, it adds some ambiance. You wouldn't go if you intended to actually watch the movie. But if you want to be NEAR a movie, than enjoy!

But the food was great, though pricey. And the atmosphere was fun. And they carry Fentiman's Cola! Double bonus!

“Cool, Eclectic and Worth a Visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2012

Well worth taking the diversion off the tourist trail for this individual venue. Although it's cool and trendy, the service is very friendly and the food was well above our expectation. The atmosphere was superb and worth the journey alone, would definitely recommend to see a slice of SF life.

“A truly memorable evening!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2012

Where to start??? The awfully bad, awfully funny Japanese monster movie with terrible subtitles and even worse acting? We're still talking and laughing about it! But the food.... Oh my! Incredibly interesting and well prepared, mouth watering combinations of Morroccan, Asian and Mexican spices and flavors all working together on your plate and in your mouth! Professional service (of course), lovely people, and a perfect night under the stars. And the chocolate pot de creme - to die for..... please, send me another via Fedex!

“Mixed feelings toward this experience”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

Some aspects of this restaurant were great; others were disappointing.

Firstly, the starter (slow roasted pork) was a great disappointment. It was almost cold, came extraordinarily quickly after we ordered and I would have money that there were just a number of them ready to go from the kitchen at any time.

The main was exceptional, the duck was delicious, perfectly cooked, tasty and tender. An absolutely excellent dish.

The cinema aspect of the restaurant was slightly disappointed, we were seated inside with no view of the one projector that seemed to be running so it was more like dining in an old warehouse than a quirky venue.

The service was good, our server was attentive and polite; however there were a number of aspects that needed some refining such as the number of servers buzzing around us continually asking if we were ok, and the fact that 5 servers were stood at a large table nearby all polishing glassware in the middle of the restaurant (an activity that I would prefer to be completed back-of-house).
