“Did the job”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

The only reason we went to this restaurant was because I felt like Japanese and it was within walking distance to the hotel. Food was ok but nothing to rave about. Waitresses weren't that helpful, it was a job. Restaurant was packed so I guess that was a good thing. I felt it catered for the locals, i have eaten better japanese food. You were restricted with the selection of sashimi, you couldn't make your own choices. This is a good restaurant to drop in for a quick meal if you are hungry and in hurry.

“Excellent Japanese near Union Square”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

Like others have commented - good food, good price, good location. We stayed quite close to Union Square and we had dinner here one evening. It was a Tuesday just after 7pm, there were still a few empty tables in the restaurant, but they all filled up fairly soon, and people were waiting for a table probably at about 7:30. Very good sign as there are heaps of restaurants around.

Food was good. We both had the combination dinners which was at a steal at $18/20 each. It included a salad, a miso, and a main with rice and season vegetable. Oh it also included an entree - we chose tempura and sashimi, both were really good and excellent portion sizes. We were very hungry so we went for an extra entree each (usually though, I would say the combination dinner would easily satisfy) - gyoza and soft shell crabs. These were both really good - I would highly recommend both but esp. the soft shell crabs. We then shared a dessert - pudding and green tea icecream, which was again excellent with lots of flavours and even 4 types of berries!

With a couple of soft drink and tea all came to a very reasonable $80. We were so full afterwards we had to take a detour before getting back to the hotel.

“Great sushi, good prices, great service”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

Third time out for sushi on this trip to San Francisco, three different places. Loved the sushi at Sanruku. Very fresh melt in your mouth maguro. Get there early.. we went on a MONDAY at 5:30 and the restaurant was pretty much filled up by 6:30 when we left. It was jammed when we walked by a 7:00 pm on the previous Saturday. Enjoy!

“Great sushi, central location”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

The rainbow roll was to die for, smooth and yummy, highly recommended. Remaining sushi was great, too, friendly staff and chefs. It is, however, extremely noisy. Very crowded, the only reason why I didn't have to wait was that I was alone and there happened to be one seat open at the bar. Count on wait time, this seems to be a very popular spot and rightfully so, based on the food quality.

“Japanese food on American soil”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

Both my wife and I had the combination dinners. Mine was salmon teriyaki and my wife, beef teriyaki. The 4 sushi pieces were outstanding with wonderful fish melting in your mouth. And the teriyaki was grand. We shared our teriyakis and both agreed the salmon was better, not to speak ill of the beef. We also shared a large saki, which was some of the best saki we have had. If there was a down side to the visit, it was that the hostess was not very cordial. Quickly offset by the very gracious wait staff. And the price was quite agreeable.
