We asked the people working in the gift shop of Mission Dolores for a lunch place recommendation. They suggested a few places, including Pancho Villa. This cafeteria-style Mexican restaurant was very busy. The menu is varied, there are plenty of seats, and the food was absolutely delicious! I would return for another delicious meal!

As a vegetarian, I cannot speak on the meat situation, but if you like fresh vegetables sauteed w garlic and wrapped up snug in a massive burrito (or more manageable taco)? Highly recommended. Yum. I've gone to pancho villa for over 20 years, and it has changed tons over the years, but it is STILL good. Good food, good salsa bar, good aguas and even fresh carrot juice, good crowd turnover, excellent service and attitude under managers who actually seem happy to be there. Oh and even great cleanliness. Yeay. Tip well at the register- they are working their fingers to the bone.

Came here with a relative that lives in the city and comes here when wanting good tasting Mexican fare with friends or family.
Yes, serving is more akin to a cafeteria setting, but the meals are excellent. Chile Relleno Burrito, Hot and Spicy Prawn, and the combo dinners were all top-notch tasty.
The real distinguishing treat is the mix of different salsas they offer - mild to moderate to hot, red, green, etc. Had a roaming Mariachi duo come in while we were dining. Monday to Friday they offer $1 Tacos from 3 to 5 PM.
Any downsides - the restrooms really need to be improved. The rating is based on the quality of food in a casual setting (no table cloth). Wouldn't be the place for a romantic meal.

This Mission District favorite is the place to get burritos with shrimp and aguas frescas. Hot totopos too! Anyone who is really from San Pancho has to have eaten here. This place has been in the Mission for many years now and is a real fixture. Casual, cheap urban goodness.
