If you like Spanish food then, this is the place to come! We have visited Barcelona and this place is a reminder of our visit there! They have great tapas choices and lots of them. It's always a fun way to eat with everyone tasting a variety of plates. And if you're a paella fan, well, you have choices there too. I love paella and have made it myself but, it's a lot of work so, I appreciate a well-made paella. As I've said in other reviews, this little area where B44 is located is so unique here in SF. The street is more like an alley and it feels as if you somehow stumbled onto a European street.

I was visiting San Francisco with some friends and we randomly stumbled upon this place. It's in an alley in the Financial District with several other restaurants. We loved everything about it. The food come out very quick and the sangria was fantastic. I can't remember the name of the item, but the garlic shrimp tapas was amazing. The shrimp was great but dipping bread in the remaining sauce was the highlight!

We took our concierge's advice and walked over to this restaurant from our hotel. Like other's have said, the Belden restaurants are in a line along the alley. It gives it a very fun and festive atmosphere. We are both a big fan of tapas and B44 has a nice selection of items.

We started with the heirloom tomato salad with green olives and goat cheese. The tomatoes tasted great. Too often, restaurant tomatoes are bland. Next we had the 5 cheese plate with quince. I can only remember 3 (a manchego, a spanish blue cheese and a tres leches.) All of the cheese was exemplary. Next, were the lamb brochettes with cucumber salad. We agreed that the lamb was far and above a great choice.

Finally, we were comped a piece of their flan. Also, very good. We had a chance to talk with owner off and on throughout the night and got some insight into their menu selections. We also found out that they are expanding to Austin in the future. B44 is a great little find in a city of excellent food.

I ordered the B44 paella which was some of the best I have ever had. It was filled with chicken, chorizo, mussels, shrimp and veggies. The flavor was superb. We had the cream puffs for dessert and they too were delicious. Our waiter was very attentive despite the busy crowd. We sat outside in the heated area and it was very comfortable. Would highly recommend this place.

Food was okay, portions are small.
When we got our bill, there was a 4% Emp Mand added to the bill. We didn't know what it was, was it the tip? Since we weren't sure, we added an addtional 15% for TIP.

We ate in many restaurants during our4 day stay in SF and never saw the Emp Mand again. After doing some research, we discovered that the restaurant had passed on to us their portion of Calif health coverage. Did the employees get the 4% of did it go into the pockets of the owners??
