Established in South Park for years, off 2nd , on a lovely oval park, this classic French restaurant never disappoints. Always busy, always an interesting menu, a very good Prix fixe menu and one of the few places still using tablecloths....so civilized. Small number of bistro tables in front.
Menu changes frequently but their two pork/pork belly appetizers are fairly often on the menu. Very good Duck, this week a Grilled Lamb, for dessert one of the standouts was a Pear Tart

I am often in this part of San Francisco but drove past South Park Street without a passing glance. In search of French food the other night, Trip Advisor reviews led me here, much to my delight. The street itself is very pretty, modeled after a square in London and residences and restaurants line the street. The South Park Cafe has been here nearly a quarter of a century. Amazingly, parking was easy to find, quite unusual for San Francisco.

The restaurant wasn't crowded the night we went and service was excellent. Everyone in our party of five opted for the three course prix fixe dinner ( $39 ) which included an appetizer, entree and dessert.

No one could resist the "pig salad" with pork confit, shallots, apples - we all wanted our own and were unwilling to share. Good thing, too, it was incredible. My son had Liberty duck breast with green peppercorn sauce, lentils and red cabbage which he deemed as good as any he'd ever eaten. My entree choice was a melt-in-your-mouth steak and another in our party had the most delicious lamb I ever tasted. We shared bites al around the table.

Dessert was another awesome experience. All were excellent but our favorite was an incredible dark chocolate confection with raspberries. There was an extensive wine list with domestic and international selections, some easy on the pocketbook. I will definitely return.

This restaurant was a find in San Francisco. the food is varied and excellent, the wait staff was friendly and informative. Everything about it was very FINE!! We went with friends who live in SF and took us there as a neighborhood favorite. But it was far more than that, It is a gem.

The setting is an unexpected leafy park hidden away in the heart of the edgy Soma District. Cool little shops, cafes and this small gem. The cook was an Englishman, giving lie to the idea that only French can cook French. The menu is classic Bistro food, nicely prepared and beautifully served. Even the prices are good.

Still a superb place! No pretentions, excellent menu, gracious and unhurried service, just a fine bistro to meet friends for an evening of good food and warm atmosphere. And, a plus for me, terrific desserts! Thumbs up!
