The entry is an alley way flanked by tall buildings leading you up to this what looks like a very small restaurant and bar. We climbed a flight of stairs leading us through an outdoor seating area and still no restaurant. But don't let the long walk detour you from this place. Continue on! The decor is very authentic French colonial, much like you would see in Viet Nam. The staff recommendations were perfect and the cocktails and food are out of this world. I would highly recommend.

“french and viet cuisine”

this is a nice date or casual upscale place with good foods. Its a bit pricey for what you get and I do not drink so could not comment on the wines but if your looking for a nice meal and atmosphere in downtown SF this is worth your time

We were a group of 6 with friends and family. The restaurant was beautiful and quiet. The wait staff were superb.
But the variety and quality and presentation of the food was wonderful. Besides being the best food in a long time. The pork, beef, crab and noodles, and everything else served was wonderful. The desserts were equally a delicios.

“San Francisco pales in comparison to NYC”
Reviewed November 24, 2013

I'd been to the Le Colonial in NYC and loved it. Unfortunately, though the San Francisco Le Colonial has a similar Saigon-inspired ambiance and decor, its food pales in comparison.

We ordered what our waiter recommended -- duck spring rolls, pork belly (which was supposed to be the best thing on the menu), a curry and the steak special. Nothing was exceptional -- except the bill, at $45/person (one was a 10-year old) -- and the sticky rice wasn't even sticky.

I regretted not doing more research into the other, less refined Vietnamese restaurants in San Francisco. I bet there are some great ones.

“True gem”

I was traveling solo on business and decided I was in the mood for Vietnamese food. This place just brought me back to a different era in time. While I made a reservation, when I arrived no table was available. I decided to wait upstairs in the bar. A small band was playing beautiful swing music and people were dancing. Well, a drink turned into an appetizer at the bar, which turned into dinner. I ordered summer rolls and the mango salad. The portions were generous. Everything was fresh and the veggies were deliciously crunchy. The flavors were perfectly balanced. Can't wait to be back in. San Francisco!
