“Vietnamese inspired food for western palates”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

Lovely space, signed from the main street as the restaurant is in a back alley way. Security on the door, which probably helps keep the (huge) vagrant/drop out contingent safely away. Lovely space, which asks you to "dress appropriately"(?) - we were in smart jeans and had no problem. Lemongrass chicken was really good, subtle flavors, plenty of chicken (white and leg meat), you wouldn't get this in a "traditional" Vietnamese. Pork shoulder was also very generous and we are used to eating serious amounts of protein! Flavors/spiciness definitely tempered for western tastes, not necessarily a bad thing, just be aware. Attentive service, think French/Vietnamese in terms of prices - don't compare this to a $8 pho in Little Saigon. Lots of business people (groups) and couples.

We've enjoyed other LeColonial locations and found this one in San Francisco (its in a back alley, so you really need to look for it) on a weeknight. We had some appetizers and went to the upper floor of the restaurant to hear some live music. The band was very good (jazz) and there was a group of about 20 people who were obviously regulars from some type of ballroom/jazz/swing dancing class, which turned out to be more entertaining than the band itself - I think they go there every week to dance and watching them - there were some real characters - is a great night's entertainment.

Reviewed August 28, 2013

There are not enough superlatives to write about the eating experience at Le Colonial. From the way you are greeted upon entering, to the wait staff and the food....absolutely incredible!! The blend of flavors is unique and perfect in the soups, each one fantastic. It is a total experience worth every minute!!!!

“Wow!!!! Amazing tastes and excellent service!”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

We went here based upon a recommendation and were not disappointed!!!! The food was absolutely amazing - we had the prawn sprig rolls for an appetizer, the entrees were the duck and one of the fish specials and dessert was the molten chocolate cake. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, was delicious. We both have food allergies and the manager came over to make sure we were OK. Our waitress was attentive without being overbearing and gave us wonderful advice on the menu.

I can absolutely say that I will come back here whenever I am in San Francisco!

“Dancing the night away”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

Someone recommended going to the lounge of this restaurant on Wednesday night for the swing dancing and the food. The downstairs is a somewhat formal fusion restaurant. Upstairs you can order off the main menu or the lounge menu. I had the tuna tartare salad (not what it was called on the menu) and my husband some sort hot dish with mushrooms, braised beef that had an outstanding sauce. The food was good but the experience was very nice. Friendly staff.
