“I still have dreams about the food”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

It's been months, and I'm sttill trying to find someplace back home that is even half as good. Yes, my aunt and I were the only english speaking, white people in the restaurant, and it is a bit cramped and dingy. But it is still, hands down, some of the best food that I have ever eaten. If I lived in SF, I would definitely be a regular.

“Our favorite restaurant in all of San Francisco”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

We have loved this restaurant for several years now. The Wheat Gluten Puff combination, served room temperature, is a perfectly prepared sampler of unique flavors to rotate between. Each flavor may be reminiscent of a certain meat-based Chinese delicacy, but you don't have to think of meat to find each flavor delicious. Order a large and you can take some home. We are also big fans of the Mixed Vegetables in Golden Nest, which is far better than the other golden nest dish featuring mushrooms because, paradoxically, it has a greater variety of fancy mushrooms in it and the nest is ringed by perfectly cooked broccoli. Finally we adore the "Lemon Chicken" which is made out of mung beans. You wouldn't know it. These non-chicken cutlets are hot, tender and served in a tangy lemon sauce.

Be sure to bring cash. The only real downside to this small family-style restaurant is the tiny old bathroom tucked into the kitchen area. But honestly: this is old Chinatown, and remodeling options are limited.

“Worth the stop for not-chicken ”
Reviewed September 1, 2012 via mobile

It was very good and recommended by locals. The "not" chicken dishes were surprisingly good!! Decent prices.

“Great veggie Chinese”
Reviewed August 24, 2012

Great staff, food really good and plentiful. Does not look much from outside but more than worth the visit. Had two mains plus Chinese tea for 16 dollars.

“wonderful and amazing chnese vegetarian restaurant!”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

We had teh thrill of sharing this hidden treasure wtih friends today. Tho it is a tiny place on the hill of Chinatown it is one of the best totally vegetarian restaurant in Chinatown. One can order anything on the menu and atho it may say sweet and sour pork it is all made wtih soy and gluten and tastes fantastic. The servings are ample and always leftovers. You can also buy five different varieties of the vegi lguten Meat" products at the counter for take out if you didn't get enough. Tho the reviews vary on this restaurat I really reccommend it and think you will find it so too. There are onyl five tables in it adn you may be asked to share a table wtih other diners but tis worth it! Its been here fro many years.
