Description: Affectionately known as the "Paris of the West," Cafe Claude is a San Francisco institution. Situated on one of the city's hidden alleys, Claude Lane, Cafe Claude offers a taste of France, with classic bistro dishes at lunch and dinner, a full bar, and an affordable wine list. On warm days, linger on the patio and enjoy a rare dose of sunshine, or a warming bowl of onion soup or coq au vin inside. On weekends, the restaurant comes alive with live jazz from 7 to 10pm, Thursday through Saturdays.

“Love it!”
Reviewed February 21, 2012

Cafe Claude has long been my favorite little gem of a restaurant in a city known for wonderful restaurants. I used to work downtown SFO and had lunch there regularly. Now that I moved away, it's always a must on every visit and it's the only place I always recommend to anyone visiting there. I hold a perfect record for the recommendations as all have gone and all have loved it!

“So good we went back”
Reviewed January 28, 2012

We dined twice at Cafe Claude on a 10-day anniversary trip in July. First was a late lunch shortly after our arrival in SF. Got a table inside -- a bistro-like setting -- since the downtown lunch rush was long past. Started with tasty, crisp and salty pommes frites and a refreshing Touraine Brut Rose' champagne to hold us until entrees arrived. Didn't have to wait long and our Coquille St. Jacques and Fettucine Provencale were both very satisfying. The seafood dish came with a small salad, as well. The decadent chocolate cake with creme anglaise was a perfect ending. Our daughter and son-in0law joined us on the last weekend and we decided a return visit was called for on our last night in SF. Again the meal was superb, and this time we sat outdoors since the evening was so balmy. Starters included onion soup, endive salad and beet salad. Another tasty pasta dish, lamb loin, seared ahi and filet mignon, accompanied by a reasonbly price Rhone red took us right through to dessert. Chocolate mousse and their special coconut flan left us happy, but still able to walk the two blocks back to our hotel.

“Our favorite restaurant in San Francisco”
Reviewed January 28, 2012

When we visit San Francisco, we often eat here every night as we love it so much. The food is so French and also so delicious. The menu does not change very much, but they often do have one special. The steak tartare is amazing and their preparation generated an addition for me.

Good value and decent prices for the quality of the food. It is not a big place and it is a little hidden, so reservations are always recommended.

“Love this French place!”
Reviewed January 18, 2012

Cozy. Great onion soup and charcuteries. Awesome filet mignon. It's tucked away in a small alley but truly a hidden gem. It's also a team effort to take care of their customers, from the host/hostess to the manager to the server.
