Food wasn't outstanding. Mozzarella was not soft and fresh but old. Almost no basil in the Caprese Salad and the pasta and sauce from the Spaghetti w/ meat sauce seemed to be straight from the super market.

You would never guess that this restaurant, right in the heart of San Francisco, would have a very low key, outdoorsy feel. It has a patio with trees and a windscreen for warmth. It's located on a quiet side street in North Beach. Food is very reasonably priced and tasted great. Definitely worth a try!

Had lunch at 2;30 pm. Of course the place was nearly empty, seemingly more so since there was no ceiling to enclose the place to make it seem cozy(big pitched wood roof, exposed). That made it airy, which was great on a cool breezy afternoon; the perfect opposite of my desert home where you must eat inside with the windows sealed to keep the machine refrigerated air in. The waiter was attentive but not overly chummy (thanks!!!) and steered me to the right lunch dish--gnocchi in a creamy/cheesy/tomatoish/ perfectly salted sauce. The yummy peppers/vinegar concoction to put on fresh bread before the meal was SUPER yummy--totally got the tastebuds wanting more action. Wine reasonably priced at $6,$7, or $10 a glass. The portions were ample without being ridiculous and the price was on the low side for North Beach. It was not fancy, but so what, not looking for that midsummer afternoon. Green St and Grant is slightly off the beaten path, but not so far that you can't figure out where your tourist behind is. I will make a beeline there again, even though there is a ton of fine Italian dining everywhere you look in North Beach.

Arrived a little late for reservation due to congestion in the area from the festival. It really didnt matter because no one was at the desk to greet incoming patrons. After about 10 minutes we were greeted and got a table on the patio. The waiter was definitely overwhelmed. Ordered antipasto which was good. Sat quite a while with no water or drinks. When the food came was obvious the kitchen was rushed as well as noodles were under cooked in my dish (the special) and my wifes eggplant parmigan was cold making me think ...microwave? Premade and reheated? In any case table next to us actually complained which spilled over to our table getting free desert from the manager as well. I would say try it on a slow night and might be nice.

You always expect Italian restaurants in North Beach to be pretentious.... and over priced. This one is neither...

Simple, straightforward Italian fare... well prepared and nicely presented. The antipasti for two has a great variety of meats and vegetables... and whether you have pasta or a pizza, you will not be disappointed.

The ambience is a bit dated but the service and the food make up for it. They have a great Jazz Combo that plays in the evening... A treat.
