“Yummy!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

I was in SF on business and the Hog Island happened to be near my hotel. Even though the Ferry Building is filled with tourists, and maybe the Hog Island was as well, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of eating there. I had the clam chowder (filled with clams still in the shell) and a dozen mixed oysters, along with a few glasses of wine. It was so good, I had the same thing a few nights later!
The first night I sat at the counter across from two guys shucking oysters with the ease and expertise of professionals, which added to the fun.
There is indoor and outdoor seating along with about a half dozen seats along the counter. While there was a line both times, it moves quickly (and if you are alone, you'll usually get seated even faster as long as you're happy with the counter). The service is friendly and brisk and the view of the bay is an added bonus.
Will definitely be back the next time I'm in SF.

“Great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013

We shared the oysters rockefeller to start, which were delicious and then had a bowl of clam chowder each. The chowder is a deconstructed chowder, meaning the ingredients aren't blended. So there are pieces of potato in the broth and the clams are still in their shells. It was delicious and really original. Really good lunch and not expensive either. Can get big queues, so go early.

“Best $1 Oyster Happy Hour spot in the city”

Get there early to get in line....

Order a dozen oysters and enjoy them each! The bread and clam chowder is also another favorite of mine here, so light, creamy and full of flavor!

“Yummy oysters and great setting.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2013

The oysters were fresh and I enjoyed my seat at the bar watching the oysters getting shucked. I opted for the oyster stew as opposed to the clam chowder only because I need a full oyster fix. Oyster stew was not bad and the hint of chipotle butter was a plus. I rated it as a 4 only because I thought it was a little pricey. I spent about $50+ excluding tips for 12 oysters, an oyster stew and a glass of wine.
