“How Did We Forget This Wonderful French Restaurant?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2009

L'Olivier has been in this location just north of the Financial District for over thirty years. Last Friday while trying to figure out a restaurant for lunch at the last minute, we headed over to L'Olivier. It is quiet, the food is great, especially for a French meal on a relative budget. The decor is a bit generic, but the service was very good and everyone was very helpful. We will definitely be going back in the near future. We can't believe we haven't stopped by in five years, but it appears that most of the diners are locals, and not from the Financial District. The prix fix for lunch for two courses was $17.50 and about $21 for three courses. Two thumbs up!

“Christmas Dinner”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2008

There were no restaurants serving dinner on Christmas Day in Sausalito, so we ventured into the city for a late afternoon holiday meal. L'Olivier offered a special four-course Christmas menu as the only option at $62 not including the 18% service charge they add (even to parties of two). As it turns out I think this was a little expensive for what you got. The food was good but not inspired. A nice pumpkin soup was the first course followed by an appetizer course and a main course with about six choices for each, and then a choice of four deserts. It was Christmas so we opted for the traditional turkey main course and it was quite all right. Most of the wait staff seem to be from eastern Europe. The two we dealt with were very friendly, helpful, and helped make it an enjoyable experience. The wine list is not extensive but had plenty of nice choices from all price ranges.

“Another overrated French-inspired restaurant”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2008

We are a French-American couple. We are always amazed by the poor quality of many so-called "French" restaurants in the U.S., and "L'Olivier" is unfortunately another illustration of this observation.
The food is average because the recipes are quite basic and the ingredients not the freshest ones.
One good point, though: The restaurant is very quiet and offers separate banquet rooms, which is convenient for business or family events.
