It was several days into our trip to San Francisco and time for a good, sit down meal that involved cloth napkins, table clothes and red meat. Not knowing a lot about restaurants in San Francisco, we stumbled upon Morton's on our way back to the hotel, checked the menu and decided to make a reservation. Luckily, it was a Sunday night and there was a spot for us at 8:30 that evening. We couldn't have been happier! The room had a real 'steak house' look and feel. Noisy, lots of tables and people and, after grabbing dinner at local haunts for a couple of nights, filled with the most fantastic scent of steak. We were somewhat surprised when we perused the menu and checked out the costs -- our favourite steak, a ribeye - was $48. Others were even pricier.The waitress suggested the steak was large enough to share. Excellent advice! There was plenty for two of us, when we combined it with two delicious sides: grilled asparagus and spinach with button mushrooms. We split a Caesar to start (delicious!) and ended the meal with a shared piece of carrot cake that I dreamed about that night ... seriously. The steak was heavenly. Perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Worth the note, too, was the service. Attentive by not annoying. Would we recommend Morton's to friends? Absolutely. Would we go back again? Anytime.

We loved everything about this place because it is a pure delight and the food is incredible and everybody is nice to talk with.

Service was great, they really tried to take care of their customers..our waiter was so funny, it was a pleasant surprise.

This restaurant is the master of the perfect steak. The setting is elegant and beautifully fitted out, the service is perfect, and the food simply stunning.

They know their steak and our orders were as good as any steaks we have had in our lives, if not better. But they know more than just meat. For example, the house bread is both stunningly tempting and generous. And the chocolate soufflé we had for dessert was beautifully prepared and even the presentation by the waitress was an art in itself.

Put simply, this is as good as it gets. Pricey but worth every cent.

To be fair, I went to Morton's SF last Feb n had one of the most memorable experience. The restaurant is in great location, although the meal is quite expensive but definitely worth it as the steak just melt in your mouth, extensive wine list, the wait staff were attentive n the atmosphere was fantastic.

Unfortunately this time was a total disappointment. Although we made advance reservation for two, but we still had to wait over 30 mins for a table set for 4. From the moment we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted with heat wave. The outside temperature was around 13 degree C but the indoor temperature by the entrance was well around 20 n it got even worst inside the restaurant.

We started to sweat after seated for 15 mins and was just gotten worst after the entree, air conditioning was non existence, air was stuffy and the only air flow was from the staff passes by. Told the waiter of the very uncomfortable dinning environment, he was very apologetic and later informed that there is nothing they can do as the air conditioning unit couldn't handle the warm day (??). He was kind enough to offer cold towels which is very thoughtful but didn't help much. We went by as usual and decided not to let the temperature to ruin the evening. By the time the main course arrived, the steak was succulent and delicious but we had lost the appetise and can barely eat. The temperate was incredibly unbearable and had to step outside to get fresh air and cool down in the middle of the meal. The waiter was very attentive and once again brought out the cold towels to ease the heat whilst he was dripping with sweat.

Towards the end, one the manager came by to apologise and attempted to explain once again that the air con unit couldn't handle the warm day which is a load of bs in my opinion. How are they planning to operate the restaurant during summer or on those days that the temperature over 15 degree C? They surely have more than one cooling tower and control unit considering the size of the restaurant. No concession was offered for a $400+ very disappointing dinning experience, especially he can see the meal was barely touched, except he did offer to wrap up the steak to take away which was no help when you're a visitor to the city. It is appalling and unhygenic for a restaurant to operate in such environment as it is off putting and disgusting when you can clearly see the sweat off most of wait staff and they are carrying food and drinks. Great food, drinks, extensive and good selection of wine, attentive wait staff but I doubted that I will ever return to Morton-saunathon.
