I did NOT come here wanting to challenge the sushi chef, but his standard fare was so good, I wanted to see what he could do with the shackles off.

I was NOT disappointed. Start with the rolls and the Negiri on the menu. If you do not want mango, just tell the server … Spider Rolls were superb, even without the mango.

Sake served cold, and attentively refilled.

Then, ask the chef to be "creative." Your response will only be "wow."

Now, this is not inexpensive, but the value for the price paid is extremely high; I strongly recommend.

This place is located in the Nikko Hotel and was a nice surprise. The concierge at the St. Francis suggested this restaurant and last nights as well. Last night was a total bust and tonight was good. They had a varied menu to appeal to the Susie lovers and others.

My colleague and I had dinner here at the end of our Business trip. We had the occasion for a small celebration and Anzu fulfilled that perfectly.

Its a smart, stylish place firstly and I loved the décor.

We sat at the counter and the excellent chefs chose us a selection of dishes which we loved. I might add they know how to mix a decent cocktail too - as one might expect in a hotel of the calibre that Nikko is.

There is a bar too - and I'd suggest its also a great place to met for cocktail hour before you head off elsewhere in San Francisco.

Will definitely come back

They specialize in Japanese cuisine and are definitely doing it right! We had to move our reservation time on short notice and they were quite accommodating. Definitely a place where you dress at least "smart casual". My fiance ordered the Titus sushi roll and we both loved it (he's been to japan and said Anzu's was better). I had the Tataki Maki which was good, but didn't come close to the Titus. For mains we ordered the Grilled Loch Duart Salmon (grilled pineapple, sweet corn puree, sepia butter and grilled crown squid) & the evening special: Ono fish with spring veggies, cauliflower puree, roasted potatoes). We shared a bit and both were good, but the salmon was preferred between the two (Ono fish itself was bland). Service was a bit slow, but there appeared to be one main server and a few "helpers", so not sure if it was related to staffing. We also got a complimentary dessert as we got engaged the day before, so it was a nice experience overall. Definitely not for those on a modest budget, but a lovely evening out.

We went there because their menu was appealing to my son for his 18th birthday. We went on a Thursday so there weren't many people. The service was attentive and the server was helpful. We started with the sashimi platter, oysters, smoked salmon belly, and the rock. The fish and oysters were very fresh. The salmon belly was ok. The rock was fun since we cooked raw slices of Wagyu steak on a hot rock. For the entree, we had the lamb which was good. The duck breast and beef strip loin was also good. My daughter didn't care for the salmon but she said it wasn't bad. My fish of the day was good. They gave my son a dessert with happy birthday written in chocolate on the plate rim which was really thoughtful even though we were really full by the end of the meal. All in all, it was a memorable evening for us.
