Adjacent to Executive Hotel Vintage Court on the boarder of San Francisco’s Union Square and Nob Hill, Masa’s offers superlative service and exquisite California French cuisine elevated to new heights by Executive Chef Gregory Short. For over 25 years and continuing in the tradition of legendary founder Masataki Kobayashi, Masa’s has made its reputation with a succession of world-renowned chefs that have deftly walked the line between culinary adventure and classicism. Chef Short and Master Sommelier Alan Murray delight in presenting nightly three-, four- and seven-course tasting menus highlighting the best of the season and region, the restaurant’s 800-strong wine list, and otherworldly cocktails at the exclusive bar. “Consistent and style”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2012

Have been visiting Masa since 2002. Consistent and style remain strong. I never have any negative expereience. It is not a 5 star experience and it is close. Food is well presented, beautiful plating, high quality and taste great.
Modern French. Yes. Stuffy. No. Relaxing and pleasant. Yes. Whether you dress up or under dressed they treat you the same. Very personable.
Little cheese puff is the best welcoming snacks. Better than Manresa and French Laundry.
They are flexible on the menu. They know that I have my restriction.
If it is truffle seaon, try the set menu to explore the high and low of truffle :)
Wine selection is great. You can learn a lot from them. Just ask and they love to share.
Take table 110 or 142 to see guess and staffs in action.
I used to visit at least once a month. I took my friends (out of state or from other countries) to Masa. I wish I could go there more frequent but the protest in SF keep me away in the last couple months.

“California fine dining”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2012

We decided on the 4 course Prix Fix with wine pairings. The wines were mostly excellent, 2 memorable. The food was interesting, more accent on fruit than in the UK. The entrees of beef and squab were highlights as was the tomato starter. The amuse bouche and chocolates disappointing. The coffee was excellent.
The service was good though lacking in any sparkle. The Sommelier was the only member of staff to engage briefly with us. We were not offered any digestif. There were no enquiries as to whether we had enjoyed any of the dishes. As an overall experience of a restaurant of this quality it left us a little flat. Sadly we thought front of house let the chef down.

“Very expensive, sophisticated cuisine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

Not a lot of options, and not a lot of food. This is chef cuisine and the accent is on the taste, not on the quantity.

You will tase many things and the main course was exquisite.

I liked it.

“Over the top!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2012

I was expecting a memorable dinner and was not disappointed! Each course was perfect and paired with a delicious wine. The sommelier was helpful and friendly. The caviar course with ice cold sake was outstanding! There was only one blip and that was the squab, but my husband loved it. Too gamey

“Thursday Night Surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2012

The Thursday night tasting menu is spectacular. At $140 per person without wine, it should be. Even with the 25% Thursday discount, that is pretty pricey. Please note, as well, that the menu for the evening is limited to the small number of selections on the prix fixe menu.
