Golden Gate Park is awesome, and large! I really like that some of San Francisco's major museums such as the de Young are located within the park. It's somewhat of an urban environment, but not to take from the park. It's a beautiful place to bike and site see. The Japanese Tea gardens are located there to add to the splendor. As well, there is a waterfall there as well. I think the coolest thing within the park is the area where the buffalo are located. Real live buffalo! Pretty awesome. Golden Gate Park is a great place to chill, or explore.

We didn't spend a whole lot of time here but did walk through the Rose Garden. The Japanese Tea Garden looked beautiful but they do charge you $7 admissions. Didn't have time to visit the museums but would love to go back. Beautiful

We recently visited Golden Gate Park and decided to walk the length of the Panhandle, which is a 3/4 of a mile extension to the Golden Gate Park that gives off the resemblance of a panhandle, a bit like the state of Oklahoma.

This is a narrow stretch of mostly shaded park with a many areas to relax on park benches, jog or walk. There are basketball courts and other light recreation available and much green space for area dog owners. Think we saw three different people walking large groups of 5-6 dogs. This was neat. The park is quiet and we enjoyed the large trees found throughout. Also, the impressive statue of William McKinley Monument at the end of the park that is worth seeing if you decide to walk the Panhandle.

Overall, we thought the Panhandle was a nice compliment to the Golden Gate Park. Although, it seems a low priority visit and most will probably want to spend more of their time at Golden Gate Park instead due to the number of attractions and much larger space available there. However, for those who plan to be in this area, the Panhandle Park is nice.
