I get the lentil soup almost every time I go here. It is perfectly seasoned and the best anywhere (including home made). It comes with a good slice of bread and a small salad goes well with it. It is close to the Orpheum theater, and within walking distance of the symphony, ballet and
civic Center. The atmosphere is peaceful although it can get busy. Unfortunately, it is not open on Sundays.

Descriptions of this restaurant gave me the fearful image of bowls of leaves served by entranced hippie-monks. Thankfully, my expectations were wrong.
Whether you’re vegetarian, vegan, or omnivore, you will find this place to be a pleasant dining experience. Walls that curve up to the sky-blue ceiling and a wall-mounted water feature give the room a relaxing atmosphere without being pretentiously “zen.” The smiling servers have the same relaxed vibe, and they pull it off genuinely, without being ponderous. The food is quite flavorful and portions are generous. Dishes are mostly westernized middle-eastern (I had a falafel wrap), with California-organic side dishes (a delicious carrot and raisin salad for me). Prices ranged from 9 to 14 dollars or so for a complete meal, minus drinks. Which leads me to the tea. It was here that I experienced slight disappointment. While I wanted my food and dining experience to be casual, I expected the tea to be at least a bit ritualized, with loose-leaf tea brewed in a pot and poured with tranquility. Instead, it was a tea bag in a generic metal carafe. The tea tasted good, but was just not the experience that it should be. Attention to such dining details could take this already good restaurant over the top.
Concerning location, Ananda Fuara is ridiculously convenient to all the public transportation, including BART (Civic Center Station). While I ate, a number of guests came in for food to go. Some would consider the neighborhood to be “sketchy,” but I had no trouble with the usual homeless people in the area, and even chatted with one. Like most of SF, the neighborhood could be described as “mostly harmless.”

The neatloaf was great. all vegetarian ingredients with a perfect "barbecue" sauce on top. I really enjoyed the Vegan chocolate cake later that night at the hotel. Only open until 8PM. Check to see if you need a reservation. Closed on Sun., holidays, even President's Day.

I have been waiting to find such place in this country for long time. It is a true oasis of fine organic subtle food in the desert of deep-fried heavy unhealthy eateries in abundance represented in this particular district of San Francisco. First, style: there is excellent tasteful atmosphere, especially if you just did yoga and looking for calming harmonious but very bright positive environment (white and light blue colors mainly). Music is reminiscent of one you can hear on meditation class, with choir singing on very soft level. Second, food: salads are full of fresh vegetable flavor and smell like if were just prepared by your grandma in her garden. Smoothies are made with fresh berries and taste phenomenal. Food is also very reasonably priced. Third, I wish there were more restaurants like that in other cities of US and all over the world. Maybe they could make a chain, at least in sake of nation's health.
