See my review on O'Douls which is very similar. Tommy's has the great buffet, good prices and one of the largest beer selections I have ever seen. The location leaves a little to be desired located on busy Van Ness Avenue and parking is scarce. The specialize in very delicious buffalo meat.

This place has been around for decades! You walk in and order food from the steam counter where guys cut and carve fresh turkey, roast beef, pastrami, brisket, and corned beef as a sandwich or dinner platter! This is like stepping back to 1935!!! Big thick fresh cooked roast beef sandwich,,,$6.00!!!!! The charm and character is part of its appeal!!! By contract, there is a chain dinner,"Mel's" across the street which is a blah blah Denny's type of place!!! Skip Mel's n go to Tommy's !!!!!!

Hungry? Chilly? Head to the corner of Van Ness and Geary!

Hand-carved freshly roasted beef, ham, turkey, pastrami...Homemade specials like buffalo stew, turkey wings, beef burgundy...Bargain prices and friendly service...All in a genuinely funky atomsphere with something like 50 beers from around the world, great cocktails, and yes, those amazing coffee drinks- perfect on a San Francisco night!

Must- Haves:
Ham sandwich on a sourdough roll- it's served with a side of ham juice. Yes, I said ham juice!
Buffalo stew- If you've never had buffalo, this is THE place to try it.
Turkey wings- A Thanksgiving afterthought? No, these are falling-off-the-bone tender and delicious. And HUGE.
The beef burgundy on Sunday.
The macaroni salad. Oh, and the coleslaw. Even the pickles are great.
A hand-mixed Bloody Mary with real horseradish at the bar. Fantastic. And they're like $4 !!
The Irish or (my favorite) Mexican coffee.

Real food priced for real people. If you're in San Francisco (lucky you!) make sure you stop by Tommy's at LEAST once.

I stopped by for a sandwich and had the bar-b-que brisket. The meat was flavorful and tender. It was so good, I took another sandwich, corned beef, to go. I also had the turkey stuffing with gravy, a bargain and delicious.
