“Excellent comfort food”
Reviewed October 15, 2010

My wife and I eat at the restaurant last week prior to a concert at the Herbst Theater. Our reservation was for 6:30PM with the concert starting at 8 PM. We made the reservation through Open Table and noted in the reservation request that we had a concert. The waiter immediately noted this fact as soon as we were seated and we were out by 7:30 PM without feeling rushed.

I had the mixed green salad which I thought was excellent and better than average. I also had the beef tenderloin which was superb: rare to medium rare, tender and flavorful. The green beans and greens were also tasty. My wife had the mixed green salad and the ahi tuna as an entree, she thought the tuna was delicious. The service was efficient and friendly and the prices were reasonable (for San Francisco). We didn't have wine so I cannot comment on the wine list except to note that there is no corkage fee, unusual in today's restaurants.

I agree with a previous poster that the restaurant can be warm, there doesn't appear to be much air conditioning, in the restaurant's defense it was one of the hottest days of the year in the city.

Definitely recommend it.

“This restaurant relies on it's former glory, BEWARE”
Reviewed September 19, 2010

We went here because the lots of sites recommended it. But we didn't pay attention to when these reviews were written. (the best reviews date from 2000-2002).
We took the wine menu (49,95 starter-entree-dessert, wine to accompany each dish and a volonté with the entree). The wines that were served where okay but the food which it accompanied was not up to par. The starter (we both took the ahi tuna, was okay, i thought the salad accompanying it was not ok), but then the entree. My pork tenderloin was overcooked (too long in the oven), the mash on both plates was awful, really awful, please never put fruit in a mash, don't.
The dessert was good, luckily. We were almost alone in this restaurant and saw the maitre sending personnel home because of the lack of customers.
This restaurant needs to rethink itself or go bust.

“Perfect choice before the opera or symphony!”
Reviewed July 3, 2009

we've only been once, but can't wait to go back. it was wonderful. had the prix fixe menu, which had a nice choice and was very reasonable. brought our own wine and no corkage fee. really friendly and good service, even though it was very busy. i am surprised to read that others had slow service; they immediately asked if we were going to the opera and then were very conscientious about getting us there on time (even though we arrived a bit late for our reservation.)

soup was delicious and seasonal. (corn and pepper) pork was perfectly cooked and served with a very spicy sauce-- a nice change from the usual sweet sauces for pork. snappy and tangy cabbage rounded it out. dessert was perfection with a delicious fresh fruit crisp- piping hot-- with homemade ice cream (very gelato-like.)
it was our anniversary, so they brought us two dessert wines to try.

a first class meal in an informal setting at a great price. short walk to the opera house. though it seems to do most of its business pre-theater, it has the feel of a little neighborhood restaurant. we will absolutely go back.

“convenient to Civic Center, but not if you're in a hurry!”
Reviewed December 17, 2008

Went there with a 4 year old and her mother to get a bite before seeing the Nutcracker. We cooled our heels for 45 minutes. Luckily the 4 year old is very well behaved! We adults became less well behaved as we saw our window of opportunity to get to the theater dwindling. Finally everything arrived six minutes before the show, several two and a half blocks away, was to start. Everything, that is except the 4 year old's meal. So she had virtually nothing in her tummy.

The last time we ate at Indigo, we were in the back room. My advice is don't go there. There is no air circulation and it gets very warm, plus it's just not as attractive a room.

Until the event with the 4 year old, I had always considered Indigo a welcoming place with good food. Now I will probably not go there again. The apologetic waitress knocked off $25 from our bill but it just didn't change our minds.
