Yet another great thing to do in San Fran that's 1) Easy to get to, 2) Cheap (it's free!) and 3) Well worth it. The mosaic tiles depict the ocean depths all the way up to the stars and they're beautifully done. After walking up the steps, you can continue to another hill with gives you, yet again, another gorgeous view of San Fran. There's so many places to get great views of the city, and this is another one. You can get to the steps easily using public transportation. It's worth checking out, especially if you enjoying travelling on a budget.

We went to the ones on 16th. Didn't realize there are two sets now. The tiles were beautiful. We only saw three other people when we were there (around noon on a Sat.) SOS had no problems with crowds. Despite having bad knees, these were easy to walk up. Unfortunately it was very foggy so couldn't see much at the top.

I've walked many of the staircases in San Francisco, many of which are cool in their own ways, but this one is a particularly beautiful one. Great colors and design, great views (if it's not too foggy), and great exercise!

My wife & I found the new steps, but missed the older ones. This is a unique display of art talent & community pride & cooperation. We would love to have something similiar in Virginia.

Thanks Yelp for letting me know about this. I had a heckuva time finding these with my GPS despite the fact I had just been up and down to Grand View Park only a block away! It sure is hard to get a tourist-free photo of the stairs – I waited 10 minutes then finally gave up. Yes, it was a weekend day so I know why so many people were there. Glad I found these stairs but view-wise, they don’t compare with the block away Grand View Park.
