We ate here last night before the Terence Blanchard show at SF Jazz. We had the black cod with shrimp, which can be ordered as a main course or appetizer, to share as a starter. I found the dish slightly salty, though horseradish as a topping was inventive and flavorful. We then had the elk and lamb shoulder as main courses. The lamb was accompanied by tiny cauliflower heads, and was excellent, though the size was surprisingly small. The elk had Swedish cheese and berries, which again worked well. For dessert we had the chocolate cake with chocolate ice cream and the rhubarb/strawberry pie. We would come back for dessert for sure after a show. Overall, very good food, though the entrees are pricey, especially for their size. Corkage is $25; we brought our own wine, as the wine list is limited, though not overly expensive.

One of the best meals I've eaten in SF and I've been to tons of restaurants. The menu is mostly small plates to share and then a few large entrees. My husband and I had the herring sample and tried the aquavit to go with. The cocktails were very intriguing/interesting. We tried a nice variety of small plates and then two entrees and shared dessert. The service was very good and our waitress Chloe was very helpful in explaining the menu. It's located in the Inn at the Opera Hotel. Not to be missed!!!!

There aren't a lot of Swedish restaurants in SF but we don't need a lot of them. We just need a really good one and we have that with Plaj. Our meal was fantastic. We had a cheese platter, burrata, meatballs and the salmon. The only thing I didn't love was our location of the table - it was a three-seater and it felt a little claustrophobic. Easy fix - request another table for next time.

Thank you for your review!
We are the ONLY full-service Scandinavian restaurant in San Francisco, and we love serving our guests the finest and most delicious flavors from the Nordic Region. Our meatballs and salmon as well as burrata are some of the most popular selections we have and we appreciate your kind words on them.
With regards to your table, I apologize you were unhappy with it. If you make your reservation online for your next visit, you may request a different table in the reservation request box, or if you are making a reservation in person or on the phone, you may ask for a specific table. We certainly will do our best to accommodate your request if possible.
Thank you again and hope to see you soon.

We stayed at The Inn at the Opera, and this restaurant is on the ground floor. Arrived on the late-ish side in the evening but we called and were told there was plenty of room, so come on down. We were seated at a table next to some very loud fellows, but we took it in stride. We ordered a couple of the exquisite salads with exotic ingredients including beets and hard cheeses (Well, perhaps not "exotic" but unusual.) I am vegetarian and if you are vegetarian you will be pleased with the choices on the menu. The server was very polite, accommodating, and had a very sweet personality, which made us feel good about being here. How important that is when you are feeling very tired and irritable! Wish we had eaten a larger meal here, as it really is an outstanding place!
