“Blackwood Rocks!”
Reviewed August 7, 2012

At 2150 Chestnut Street in Marina/Cow Hollow is a fantastic Thai Fusion restaurant called Blackwood. The food was great, the service was great, the atmosphere was great. The Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mow were both very tasty. The cheesecake dessert is to die for......looks like a 3/4 globe filled with cream cheese style cheesecake surrounded by a chocolate cookie crust. Out of this world. Also, try the whisky cake. This place opened in June 2012 and is going to be a great success. I also hear that the breakfast is to die for....especially the bacon.

Bret,

I'm glad you got to check us out while you were in town. It sounds like you enjoyed the food. The dessert is what really got you excited, isn't it? Excellent selection on the cheesecake. Stop in and see us again any time you're back in San Francisco, maybe for brunch next time! Thanks for the kind review.

Take care,

Steven, Owner

“Can't Wait To Go Back”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

My wife and I visited the Chestnut Street area (Marina District) in San Francisco on July 28, 2012. We decided that we needed some coffee and went on a hunt for a Starbucks. Our search was successful as we located a Starbucks AND Peet’s. But as we walked along Chestnut, we stopped to admire a giant Great Dane (is that redundant?) tied up on the sidewalk in front of Peet’s. Then we noticed two dog bowels at the entrance to a restaurant sandwiched in between the two coffee shops at 2150 Chestnut St. A very pretty employee of the restaurant was filling the bowls with water. We thought that was very accommodating to dog owners who might be strolling by. We stopped to talk to her and to read the menu posted on the wall. Since it was time for lunch, we were immediately engaged in a conversation about the restaurant and the food. The restaurant is the Blackwood, “American Thai Fusion” specializing in New American and Thai food. The lady is Tik, the hostess/waitress.

We went in and ordered lunch, the BW Scramble – chicken mango sausage, avocado, sweet basil, shallots, shredded carrots, and white cheddar cheese. Fortunately we decided to split the scramble because it came with potatoes, a salad and a large piece of toasted French bread. It was delicious, or “aroi mak mak,” as Thais would say. I don’t know how anyone could eat this huge portion. Tik said that the ones that do are pretty big.

There are two long tables at the entrance and while they are outside, they are back from the sidewalk in kind of an alcove. Inside is a very high ceiling with a large skylight and very tastefully done furnishings.

This restaurant opened on June 13, 2012 serving “breakfast to die for,” from 8 AM to 4 PM, lunch from 11 to 4 and dinner from 4 to 11. So if you are hungry late, stop in. They take reservations, attire is casua, the food is moderately priced and they have free WiFi so you can check your email during dinner.

We were fussed over by Tik, Pooja, and Boo (she has a lot of fun at Halloween). The thing we like about Thai women is their charm, friendliness, elegance, and their beauty. The ladies of Blackwood are no exception.

The food was great and we can’t wait to go back for dinner. The entrees range in price from $17 to $22. And of course they have our favorite dish, Tom Kha Kai soup. The Blackwood is definitely on our list of restaurants to visit on our next trip to San Francisco.
