“Great location - nice hotel”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

At first glance the location of this hotel looks to be a bit out of the way but the transport links are so good that it doesn't matter at all. In fact, it was nice not to be staying in the busiest parts of town and made us more inclined to explore.

We had an en-suite room with a queen bed and it was a good size for the 2 of us to move about, store suitcases etc.

The rooms are comfortable and cleaned daily and the staff are very helpful and keen to recommend places to eat/drink. There are actually a lot of nice restaurants in the area immediately around the hotel and I would recommend trying a few of them out. Golden Gate Park and Castro are reasonably short walks and there are several bus routes operating in the close vicinity (6/71 down Haight run into downtown, 24 runs along Divisadero towards Castro and beyond).

This little hotel is perfect for the traveler on a budget. It is a quick bus ride to the downtown area. Close to the Castro and other restaurants. The room was clean and nicely furnished. The bathroom was small but more than adequate. The staff were helpful and welcoming. A great little place and would definitely stay there again.

Don't let the fact that this hotel in not in the centre of town deter you. We stayed here for 5 nights in December 2012 and loved it. It was a quick bus trip into the city and there were great cafes and restuarants nearby. We had a large room with two queens in one section and a double in an alcove. for a family this gave us some privacy. Thebeds were extremely comfortable and the staff amazing. I now recommend this hotal to everyone I speak to. It was our first destination in a 6 week tour to the States and set the tone for an amazing holiday. My teenage son also loved the fact it was located right next door to a comic book shop.

Room Tip: The room with the alcove is very big and even though on the street side it was quiet.

This hotel does everything a hotel must do perfectly well (good bed, clean, bathrooms fine) and does nothing of what a hotel doesn't have to (no room service, no huge lobby, etc.) The staff is very friendly and helpful.

The two extras I saw were a nice sitting garden in the back and free wifi. But given the price and the location, that's exactly what I and many other travelers would look for. Highly recommend.

The staff, notably Shayna (spelling probably wrong), were very friendly and professional.
We loved the slightly off the beaten pathness of this place, meaning not an area clogged!! with tourists, people trying to work, and folks who panhandle on the street all dodging each other (this was our other experience outside a 4star hotel--gross and tiring because it was several blocks around that building).
A block and a half away on Haight is a MUNI bus stop (very close). There are lots of restaurants for breakfast, lunch, or dinner close by. It is a lovely place to stay with adults who act like respectful adults (thankfully that was our experience)--If you are planning on crying, screaming, carrying on in a loud way--you will be heard by everyone in the hotel. It is a quiet, great deal, and I would tell a friend about it.

Room Tip: Room 205--even for a slightly light sleeper was good.

The service at this hotel is wonderful, it is the most welcoming place I have ever stayed in. The staff were very accommodating (I had booked the room a day earlier by mistake and they held it for us, which was much appreciated). We were in room 103 overlooking Divisadero street. The room was large and clean, housekeeping do a great job. We did get a bit of traffic noise, but it did not affect our stay or our sleep. Surprisingly we didnt hear a thing from the restaurant below. The beds were comfortable, the water hot and the room heating was perfect and not overwhelming.
It is a little bit away from the Fishermans Wharf/Union Square, but if it had been closer we would not have had the opportunity to stumble across some great restaurants and boutique shops. Short walk to the Hayes Valley and only 3 metro stops away from downtown.
This place is trendy and fun and is excellent value for money. I would recommend anyone to stay there. I will definitely be back!
Thank you Metro Hotel!

I stayed here for three nights in Mar 13 to attend a seminar relatively close by. The value to price ratio seemed high according to prior reviews.

I chose a third floor room in the back to avoid road noise (208). There is some noise from a pizza joint that has "outdoor" seating in the back. It was mostly murmuring in the background.

The room is tiny. The sink is outside of the bathroom - not sure why. The essentials were here. The maid staff is excellent!

If I were to return to SF, and I will, I won't stay here again. The neighborhood is gritty and the amenities sparse.
