“Great location and nice staff...clean for a hostel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2009

We stay here as a group for our service trip and love the location. Being next to a huge park and within walking distance of Fisherman's wharf makes it worth it. The bathrooms are pretty clean and so are the rooms. Can get loud with groups of kids but they are patient and helpful. Internet access is nice. Wish you didn't have to pay so much for the private meeting space. Wish there was an oven. The kitchen downstairs is pretty well equipped and the staff does a nice job cleaning it. I'd recommend it.

From our initial questions & registration, then accomodating our group's needs, the hostel staff were excellent and friendly. Fort Mason is in an awesome location - can walk almost everywhere - and has beautiful views and history. Basic breakfast is enough & the hot showers felt great after a day of sight-seeing.

We enjoyed reading the staff's recommendations on the bulletin boards, and especially liked meeting Nanette, the hostel director, at the Girl Scout event at Crissy Field! She truly wanted the Girl Scouts to enjoy the hostelling experience and offered her services for future trips. The staff couldn't have been nicer to us! Thank you!

Our Junior GS troop bridged to Cadettes and stayed at the Fisherman's Wharf Hostel. It was a great experience. We were warmly greeted and were given exclusive use rooms. The kitchen and large refrigerators were very helpful for us to keep costs down. Breakfast was a little light, so we added our own protein. On the whole, we would recommend staying there.

We recently stayed at this hostel as part of a Girl Scout trip to San Francisco. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The hostel is located in a beautiful setting that's hard to beat. Also, the prepared meals were perfect for our troop!

I bring a large group of students every year for the cherry blossom festival in Japan town.
You can't beat the location or the price. We were right on the water's edge withith walking distance of pier 39.

The staff is extremely helpful and if you forget to bring anything...they probably will have it at the front desk. There is also a spacious kitchen, a cafe and numerous ammenties.

I liked the addition of the room key cards. The only thing lacking is that there are no bathrooms connected to the rooms like at the downtown hostel. However, the quiet nights and the peaceful location make up for this.

Many of my students continue to use hostels well after graduation after their experience here.

Pros:
4 bed dorm was a little cramped, but large lockers under bed and good rate
Swipe card door locks
Kitchen was huge and well equipped, although it seemed deserted during many meals.
Clean bathrooms and dorms
Free walking tour
Free WIFI
Cosy chill out sofa areas
Waffles/bagel, juice, tea, coffee breakfast included with a view of the Bay
2 minute walk to see Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz
Close to f-line street cars and buses
Allow refunds at quite late notice
Helpful front desk staff
Hostel discount at Safeway supermarket 2 mins walk away

Cons:
No where to hook a bag in the shower, but made do with a stool
Takes a little more effort to get into town at night
Washing machines usable after 4.30pm only

This hostel is great, the standard with YHAs is always good but this was exceptional. Very close to Fishermans Wharf and was a tram ride in to the city centre. rooms were excellent as was the cozy, log fire communal rooms. This hostel has an attached cafe which serves FREE brekkie and very cheap but good meals. Only bad thing-bathrooms were slightly out of date.
